This 1974 Taiwan romance drama was one of the earliest films the then teenager Brigitte Lin starred in. Revered musician and filmmaker Liu Jia Chang directed, scripted, and scored the film, and the theme song he composed is still considered a classic. It was originally sung by Jenny Tseng (who also has a cameo appearance in the film), but due to a contract dispute, was released on record by Tracy Huang; the song was subsequently covered by many divas including Teresa Teng.

In this Chinese version of Roman Holiday, an American tanker tycoon and his family has a short stay in Taiwan on their way to the engagement ceremony between his daughter Laura (Kang Jia Zhen) and a Thai prince. There, the unhappy Laura runs away, meets a rookie reporter Tung (Gu Ming Lun), and falls in love with him. Playing Tung's sister who befriends Laura, Brigitte Lin captured the audience with her unparalleled beauty and rode on this success to attain superstardom.

旅美華僑航夜鉅子唐才樹攜新當選的華埠小姐蘿拉（康家珍）赴某國，與該國的皇族之子舉行文定之禮，途經台灣順道訪國三天，下榻某觀光大飯店。青年梁新彤（谷名倫）剛從新聞學校畢業，就職某報社的實習記者，奉派採訪蘿拉新聞，計畫搶先獨家刊出，採訪主任鼓勵若能順利完成任務，就能升為正式記者。梁興沖沖返家抵寓所時，見一蓬髮垢面身著睡袍已呈醉態之女郎，瑟縮坐於大門口，狀甚可憐。即將女郎扶至室內暫避風寒，等她清醒後，送其返家。第二天唐才樹發現該女失蹤大為震驚，因礙於顏面未公開發表新聞，只秘密聘請私家偵探尋訪，並將事先安排之記者招待會，宣佈延後舉行。

梁新彤因前一晚受該女郎騷擾，一覺醒來以為已錯過預定之記者招待會，心中十分氣惱，全部歸罪為該名女子，少女默然忍受，新彤只得杜撰採訪經過，搪塞了事，因趕往交稿就電話聯絡妹妹新蘭（林青雲）來寓所照料。新蘭誤認少女為哥哥的密友，肆意調侃，經女解釋之後，才知道誤會，二人年紀相仿談笑投機，漸成莫逆，新蘭乃邀共同參加男友的生日舞會。唐才樹等人憂心忡忡，因唐女已失蹤一日一夜，迄今消息全無，記者招待會又需改期，若至晚上仍未尋獲，明天只得公開發表失蹤消息，登報尋找。
