YesAsia Editorial Description

An unbeatable triumvirate of actresses stars in Moon, Star & Sun, a harrowing drama depicting the lives of Hong Kong club hostesses. Maggie Cheung is Chu, a neophyte club girl whose initiation to the world of PR Girls comes with its share of troubles. She's assigned to share an apartment with veterans Gigi (Cherie Chung) and Porsche (Carol Cheng), who each have their own personal issues with the profession. Gigi has a husband in jail, and is also notorious for cheating her customers, a habit that leads her into conflict with a pair of tough triads. Meanwhile, Porsche is aging, and no longer brings in the customers like she used to. An old flame offers to take her away from the life, but is the offer too good to be true? Chu learns from her friends' experiences, but even their wise advice doesn't stop her from falling in love. But can a PR Girl really find genuine love in her seedy profession? Director Michael Mak (Sex and Zen) gets great performances out of his leading actresses, who light up the screen with true-to-character performances. Broken dreams and bitter emotions meet in the dramatic and emotionally involving melodrama Moon, Sun & Star.

Then she fells in love with a bank manager however the love couldn't last; Gigi's husband was in jail. She became a hostess to raise money to get him out. Her husband was out but started to cheat on her; Porsche knew her best days were over as a hostess. She had been saving money for going to US to see her daughter. One day her ex-boyfriend came back from US and asked her to go there, she was really glad. In times she found that he wanted her only as a hostess. Margrita was known as a hardboiled, money-oriented mamasan. Yet she had a heart of gold. She helped those 3 girls stated above for having their own lives.

Can a club girl find true love? Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"Moon, Star & Sun" is a melodrama about three young women from unfortunate circumstances who become stuck working as club hostesses and struggle to get out of that seedy world only to be let down by every man who crosses their paths. Maggie Cheung plays Chu, a young beauty from an impoverished family who is sold into the club world to raise cash for her good-for-nothing stepfather's debts. Cherie Chung plays Gigi, who works in the club in order to pay for lawyers to get her hubby out of jail, then to raise funds for her newly-freed husband to buy a hair salon. And wild girl Porsche (Carol Cheng) just hopes to find wedded bliss with her high school heartthrob. Cheung, Chung, and Cheng all are fine as they draw strength from their relationships with each other in order to meet the challenges they face. Equally good is veteran actress Hu Chin as the "den mother" of the China City Night Club's girls; she is torn between the tawdry requirements of her job and a motherly concern for the women working for her.

Don't look to "Moon, Star & Sun" for subtlety; this is heavy melodrama on a grand scale. The film's cinematography is pedestrian and some of the acting by Shing Fui-On and others is overbroad. The producers of this DVD clearly made no effort to clean up the grainy images of this old print. Nonetheless, the chemistry between the three leads and the tearjerking story ultimately make this a satisfying film. Recommended for a mature audience.

Sad story Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
With Carol Cheng, Cherie Chung & Maggie Cheung, i expected a great, great film. It wasn't a bad film, but it showed the life of 3 'club girls', it wasn't glamourous, in fact it was a bit sad. I think any 'club girl' would think twice about getting into the business after seeing this film. Still, it was well acted, but I have seen those 3 main characters have better films than this one. Watch it only if you are a big fan of at least one of the 3 girls.
