The plot centers on two brothers trapped in world of shadow, one literal, the other metaphorical. An orphan since childhood, Seiji (Tatsuya Fujiwara) must look after his teenage brother Michio (fourteen year old Ryo Kimura making his film debut as well), who suffers from Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a rare, incurable disease that prevents him from going out in the sun. To support his younger sibling, Seiji joins the Yakuza, working his way up the crime ladder and eventually becoming the right-hand man to a powerful mob chief.
The two brothers' dark lives are brightened considerably by the appearance of Keiko (popular television actress Aya Okamoto), Michio' s beautiful young nurse. Thanks to an act of chivalry on the part of Seiji, Keiko falls head over heels in love with him. And while Seiji has become so engulfed in the criminal underworld that he has lost sight of his own happiness, his budding romance with Keiko offers him a second chance at truly living a good life. But will Seiji' s decision to walk the straight and narrow path be successful?

| I saw this movie in Japan before the day I came back to Taiwan.It really made me cry to die as I saw the ending scene!If you like Fujiwara Tatsuya, this movie is must-to-see!And in this movie, the retarded and sick younger brother, Mijiyo, acts well as Leonardo in Marvin's Room (Leonardo acts as an retarded one)!Although some parts of story is kind of vulgar and formula for deliberately arousing audiences' sympathy, it is still a not bad touching story. |

| It's a very touching story.I am very impress about the character that carry by seiji.He is a very brave man who never necglet his younger sibling,michio who has rare disease.Because of his responsible he becomes a yakuza.I also like the love story in their that seiji with keiko.The most unforgetable plot for me is at the end.I am very admire of seiji of his brave. |
