The beloved cartoon character Master Q (AKA: Lo Fu Ji) gets a hilarious live-action adaptation in the side-splitting comic adventure Mr. Funny-Bone! Join Master Q for a series of comic vignettes as he attempts to win the heart of the lovely Li Jing. Along for the ride is Master Q's loyal sidekick Potato, a stout fellow who's forever getting into silly mishaps. The pair get involved in plenty of shenanigans and gags, including pratfalls, low-brow bathroom humor, and even some fun fighting sequences. The Master Q adventures in Mr. Funny-Bone proved so popular that a later sequel, Mr. Funny-Bone Strikes Again was produced, and New Wave filmmaker Tsui Hark brought the series into the twenty-first century with a live-action/computer graphics hybrid called Master Q 2001. In any incarnation, the exploits of Master Q and Potato remain fundamentally the same. They're all full of slapstick fun, innately enjoyable laughs, and plenty of entertainment suitable for the whole family!

Intermittently amusing Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
If The Three Stooges are just a little too highbrow for your tastes, then you might give "Mr. Funny Bone" a try. Based upon a long-running comic strip, "Mr. Funny Bone" makes little attempt at telling a story; instead, it presents a series of slapstick vignettes capturing a day in the life of a clueless everyman. (Those relying on the English subtitles will miss the silliness of the fact that the bumbling, hapless central character, whom the subtitles always refer to as "Funnybone", is called Old Master by his friends and colleagues.)

We see Old Master wake in the morning (he shares a tiny bed with his pudgy pal Big Potato), struggle to get on a bus to get to work, battle his company's boss, create chaos in the workplace, endlessly woo the office beauty (Li Jing), scheme to get a table in a restaurant, flee from his adoring fat cousin, etc. Wang Sha, who plays the Old Master, definitely has a gift for physical humor, but the gags here tend to be predictable and of the lowest sort. "Mr. Funny Bone" plays a bit like a long, bad episode of 'The Benny Hill Show'. Fans of Wang Sha probably should stick with the Crazy Bumpkin films and "The Happy Trio".

 Lo Fu Ji...charming, yet vulgar... Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
'Mr. Funny Bone/Lau Fu Zi/Lo Fu Ji'(1976) is a vulgar and offensive, yet fun, cartoonish, and charming film. This film is based on characters created by Wong Chak and Kwei Chi-hung('Big Brother Cheng') directs. Singaporean comedian Wang Sha brings Lo Fu Ji/Master Q to life, Ngai Tung Kwa is Master Q's rotound sidekick Potato, Liu Lu Hua is Master Q's handsome friend Chin, and the sweet and lovely Li Ching is Ms. Chen, the secretary of Master Q's boss and the love interest of Master Q. This film chronicles some of Master Q's misadventures: from trying to board a crowded HK bus(Master Q even clings to the side of the bus; light years before Jackie Chan would in the 'Police Story' films), dealing with a ghost that wanders around an apartment building, getting a table at a teahouse, dealing with muggers in the park(a young Yeung Pan Pan makes a cameo in this scene), having fun at the beach, asking Ms. Chen for her hand in marriage, and more.
Master Q's charm reminded me of Popeye, but the crude humor is closer to 'South Park': Chin urinates in the sea and a bunch of dead fish rise to the surface, Potato passes gas(complete with powder shooting out of his pants), Master Q accidentally hits a co-worker(Norman Tsui) in the "family jewels" with a typewriter, Master Q's ice cream cones smack into a woman's chest(light years before sassy pop singer Madonna would don cone-shaped bras), etc. Gags like watching Master Q try to push open a door that had to be pulled open had me in stitches. Master Q's obese, female cousin has her friends pick up Ms. Chen and throw her across the room( a mannequin doubles for Li Ching)and she crashes into a table! Ms. Chen gets tong mihn(soup noodles)shoved into her mouth! She spits them out and she tries to cool down her mouth by waving her hand! Yes, this film is very cartoonish. Master Q/Lo Fu Ji's creator, Wang Chak, even served as a co-producer on the film(Wang Chak even helped design a set that resembles the black-&- white Lo Fu Ji comics). I enjoyed this film, but like a junk food diet, it left me full of buzz, lacking in nutrients, with a headache and stomach cramps. Lo Fu Ji's fans, old and new, may relish in this film, but others will probably be turned off by it.
