Based on her marriage with American writer Tony Laszlo, Oguri Saori's ongoing autobiographical comic series Darling wa Gaikokujin (a.k.a. Is He Turning Japanese?) became immensely popular in Japan thanks to its sharp, humorous observations on international marriages in Japan. After five books, the series is hitting the big screen with My Darling is a Foreigner, starring Inoue Mao (Hana Yori Dango) and American actor Jonathan Sherr (who speaks fluent Japanese) as the loving couple. Writer Oshima Satomi (Kafoo - Waiting for Happiness) and longtime ad director Ue Kazuaki take a relatively serious approach to the material, dealing with the conflicts that arise from an intercultural marriage, but the two also retain the hilarious observations of the original manga with plenty of comical charm.

Life is good for aspiring manga artist Saori (Inoue Mao) and writer Tony (Jonathan Sherr): They're head over heels in love, they've moved into a home together, and they're even considering marriage. But there's one little problem: Saori's father (Kunimura Jun) disapproves of the relationship. From there, misunderstandings begin to build between the two, putting their relationship in danger. Will Saori and Tony be able to get over their cultural barrier and stay together?

Saori (Mao Inoue), a would-be manga artist supporting herself as on illustrator, is inlove with Tony Laszlo (Janathan Scherr). Who come to Japan after he fell in love at first sight with its "Kanji" written characters. He is an American, Unable to speak a word of English, Saori is nonetheless taken with Tony, and they begin to go out. They start to sense "Marriage" and move in together.

They arrange to rent her sister's wedding hall, and invite her parents, Saori's mother was expected to present on obstacle, but Tony wins her over completely. Her father, however, pointing to saori's easy-come easy-go attitude to life, quietly announces his opposition to the marriage...
