Canto-pop starlet Elanne Kwong held her first major solo concert at the Hong Kong International Trade & Exhibition Center on January 15, 2010. Aptly christened My First Show, the live concert marked a big leap forward for the aspiring singer, who made her first impression in 2007 with the debut EP Innocent. Elanne was both sweet and sexy that night, giving an eye-opening show that demonstrated her progress as a performer. She performed pretty much her entire repertoire, and also covered songs from other artists, the highlight being a hot dance medley. This 2-DVD set offers 120 minutes of footage from the concert with karaoke feature. Bonus material includes a concert photo slide show and 25 minutes of backstage footage.

You certainly can’t beat a live show to a recording, as the atmosphere can only truly be felt when actually at the specific show or event. But watching this captivating and energetic first live DVD concert of Elanne Kong’s here, even though a DVD quality representation, is one brilliant atmospheric and electric live concert. It’s so live (and not spoilt by over editing) that I actually felt I was there watching this (even on a presently moderate piece of computer kit). Ellen is absolutely brilliant and full of enthusiasm and energy, loving every minute of performing live here and getting truly emotional as she reflects on her fortunate career leading up to this 2010 concert. Elanne speaks a lot amongst the songs and reflects on her past, family and friends and fans that helped support her. Elanne also gets toucy feely and personal with some of the hugh concert audience on the encore moments, mingling and shaking hands (and luckily not getting mobbed) and showcasing an absolutely memorable experience for fans and Elanne herself. EK enjoyed this experience to the fullest.

These highly joyed feelings are also projected well by Elanne’s excellent song set, stretching across two DVDs with mostly moderate tempo songs for the first part (disk 1), but letting the dance energy rip on disc 2 with a great body moving song medley featuring “Super Star” and “Chotto” and and extended version of “Show You”. The stage show is huge (probably standard, but impressive nevertheless) with lovely blue lighting for the moderate stuff and some red and yellows for high energy and excellent presentation. Musicianship is fantastic and anyone lucky to have brought a ticket to see Elanne was really justly rewarded. Elanne gives fans a lot from her back catalogue with songs palatable for a wide audience; if you love easy listening, hot dance, pop or ballad this concert will surly enthuse.

Quality wise even as a DVD (I ain’t going Blue Ray yet until next year) its superb quality with a good 5.1, stereo mix + no vocal (still I used my Sennheiser headphones to up the atmos) plus karaoke text that can either be on or left off screen. The extras are screen shots, a making of and some skin loving Neutrogena. I really need to see more of my concert collection DVDs now (oh the limited time) as I truly enjoyed this! Well done Elanne, this was one brilliant first show. (Small note – If you love the Twins get this as there’s a bit of a Twin’s song surprise here).
