Raised in a broken family, Cat (Barbie Hsu) runs away from home as a teenager to escape her stepfather. In high school, she begins living with boyfriend Liam (Eddie Peng), but puppy love eventually ends in betrayal. While Liam is in the army, Cat, feeling lonely and poor, meets an older man through the Internet; Xiao Gu (Joseph Chang) is looking for sex, Cat is looking for money. From lust comes love, until Cat discovers Xiao Gu is actually married. After ten years of ups and downs, Cat begins anew at age 28 when she meets the rich and kind-hearted Sunshine (Easton Tung), but is he really her heart's final home?

Barbie Hsu is good, but... Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
"My So-Called Love" is one of the most frustrating and, ultimately, disappointing films I've seen in recent months. Barbie Hsu stars as Cat, a gorgeous girl from a broken home. She flees her home when her stepfather gives her unwanted attention, moving in with her boyfriend, the dutiful Liam (Peng Yu Yan). All goes well with the young couple, until Liam gets drafted into the army just as Cat is entering university. Before Liam departs, Cat asks him to define "love". He offers a perfect description: "Love means giving of yourself. Always giving." Just right! But after Liam departs for the military, Cat reveals a selfish and self-destructive nature that is almost the opposite of "always giving". To earn money for her education, she turns to selling her body for cash and becomes involved with a married man.

Watching Cat's self-hatred consume her makes for difficult viewing and the film's unresolved ending is unsatisfying. Indeed, after Liam's beautiful description of love mentioned above, the film spends the next 90 minutes leading to this response from Cat: "Perhaps ... there's no answer to my question [of 'what is love']. Instead, it's the ability after each painful experience to encourage each other to speak our mind." Oh, please. Unfortunately, this kind of empty pseudo-philosophizing is characteristic of this film's pretentious script and excessively arty cinematography.

On the plus side, beautiful Barbie Hsu's performance is compelling and Mavis Fan's film score is brilliant, perfectly suited to the movie's atmosphere. Unfortunately, those positives are squandered by the incoherent story and sophomoric script.

Barbie's first daring role!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Barbie's looks is really very innocent. It's hard to envisioned her playing a young prostitute.

On her first time of being one, she played her role being a novice. The more she gets to go with Eddie Peng the more mature scene you can expect. I think she did her acting well. Eddie Chang played his role pretty well too. I was expecting less actually but he is really good.

This film is worth buying.
