Entertaining action film Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
In "My Son", Jimmy Wang Yu plays a young man who is alienated from his police detective father because his father's obsession with work led to the death of his mother. Wang Yu's character, while having a good heart, can't hold a job because he is too short-tempered and always ends up in fights. He yearns to be independent of his hated father.

Margaret Hsing Hui does a nice job as Wang Yu's virginal girlfriend, a sweet young woman who Wang rescues from a sexual assault. Hsing Hui convinces as a girl trapped by circumstances into working in tawdry bars, the girl who is able to see the good in rebellious Jimmy Wang.

"My Son" is a colorful, broad melodrama, in which one unfortunate event after another befalls the two young lovers, usually due to Wang Yu's inability to control his anger. The film works well because Wang Yu is utterly believable in his hot-tempered role.

The film is loaded with violent fights, groovy bars, cool songs, and the passion of youth. Of all the Shaw Brothers' tales of youthful rebellion that I've seen to date, this one is my favorite and I can recommend it highly.
