Wong Jing strikes again with the slapstick gambling comedy My Wife is a Gambling Maestro! Multi-tasking as director, producer, actor, and most likely writer (credited to "Two Fat Men"), Wong Jing retreads the hallowed God of Gamblers formula with genre regular Nick Cheung, no stranger to gambling films or Wong Jing shtick after appearing in The Conman series. Nick Cheung doesn't deal the cards this time, however, as gambling duties fall to Wong Jing's newest protege Natalie Meng Yao (Beauty and the Seven Beasts). Co-starring comic standby Cheung Tat Ming, martial artist Xing Yu (Kung Fu Hustle), and Stephen Chow regular Chan Kwok Kwan (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle) as the swaggering bad guy, My Wife is a Gambling Maestro is an amusing throwback effort with more than enough action, comedy, and mahjong tiles to entertain fans of the genre.

Gambling queen and martial arts extraordinaire Ying Ying (Natalie Meng) is set to take the crown at the upcoming Asian God of Gamblers championship, but she ends up in deep water when she gets double-crossed by her lover (Samuel Pang) and rival gambler Manu (Chan Kwok Kwan). Suffering from amnesia after her drowning incident, Ying Ying gets rescued by an unlikely knight in shining armor: harried debt-ridden debt collector Jay (Nick Cheung) who suffers abuse left and right in his job and from his cheating girlfriend. Things seem to look up for Jay after he meets Ying Ying, but she has the habit of beating him up whenever he gets too close. The clock is ticking down as Ying Ying settles down to a new life with Jay who happens to hate gambling because of his line of work. Will Ying Ying regain her memory in time for the championship? And what will Jay do when he finds out her true identity?

Gerrard was such a soft hearted, mellow young man that he often was made a fool by his various girlfriends whose sole interest in him was his money. However, fortune smiled upon him when one night, he discovered Ying Ying lying on a beach unconscious. Not only was Ying Ying young and sexy, she was also a kungfu master. She helped Gerrard recoup many of his bad debts and kicked his lousy girlfriends away.

More to his surprise was her virtuosity in gambling. She played mahjong, bet on football and horse racing　-　in fact, any casino game　-　like a maestro and never failed to win. However, Ying Ying suffered from amnesia, and could not remember who she was. Nevertheless, Gerrard plucked up courage to ask her to marry him, and to his exaltation, she agreed.
