There have been numerous screen adaptations for the final wuxia novel Xian He Shen Zhen by the grandfather of the genre, Taiwan writer Wolong Sheng, and ATV's 1992 martial arts drama series Mythical Crane, Magic Needle may be the first one that leaps to mind. Produced by Poon Wai Kei with revered action choreographer Ching Siu Tung as consultant, the series was shot on location in Zhangjiajie, China, and employed then-top-of-the-line visual effects to enhance the fight scenes. ATV fielded some of its elite actors, including Michelle Yim, Eric Wan, Poon Chi Man, Eddy Ko, and Lau Dan for the costume action drama. The main plot follows the feud between sworn brothers Ma Junwu (Anthony Tang) of Kunlun Sect and Cao Xiong (Thomas Lam) of Tian Long Safeguard Agency, who are driven apart by the reappearance of the secret Buddhist kung fu manual that is coveted by the entire martial world. The memorable drama series also co-stars a group of lovely actresses in their prime, like Strawberry Yeung, Mak King Ting, May Huang, Tiffany Liu, and Weng Hong (a.k.a. Yvonne Yung).
