Average Soundtrack

I was excited to see a NANA Soundtrack, but the overall presentation isn't very good. It's only 37 minutes long, and some of the early tracks are less than 45 seconds long, so they sound incomplete and sometimes fade out in weird areas. The short soundtrack versions of GLAMOROUS SKY and ENDLESS STORY aren't the best quality (sound is too low) and force you to purchase the single CDs. As for the DVD, this is what made the soundtrack worth it, especially since the two PVs aren't available on either Japanese DVD. I loved the background productions scenes, with the final versions of the clips from the movie. GLAMOROUS SKY was shown fully during the credits of the movie, but it's nice to see a full sized version. My minor complaints about the DVD are that there are no chapters for the intros and the actual PVs, it's not presented in Anamorphic Widescreen, and the editing on ENDLESS STORY is not very good. |

Melancholic and beautiful piano tunes
Melancholic and beautiful piano tunes
| I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've seen so many trailers and of course the songs by Mika Nakashima and Yuna Ito, you'd thought the OST would be something similar to that type of rock/j-poppy tune. But funnily enough it aint. Yes, it has great live music vids of Nakashima-san and Ito-san's signature songs from the movie, but the rest are cool, soothing and melancholic piano tunes, which I find very moving because of how much I know about the Nana storyline. The music's meant to portray the relationship and closeness and sadness between the two main characters of 'Nana'. So in my opinion, if you truly love the movie/manga, it will surely capture your heart. |

Questionable advertising
|
I rather regret spending so much money on this product. First off, the advertising is very misleading. The "photobook" that's included is a normal CD booklet with some pictures from that movie that you can find online or in the previously released photobooks. There's only one miniature sized picture of Reira and the pictures of Nana and Hachi really aren't too interesting. The DVD containing "live" versions of GLAMOROUS SKY and ENDLESS STORY are, in a very technical sense, live, yet they're not live. You get to see how they tape the PVs and stuff, and you see the PVs without the bits where the normal PVs switch to scenes from the movie, or in Yuna's case, the part where she's in the animated background. So it's not a real live performance, it's just a different cut of the PV. The soundtrack itself leaves a lot to be desired. The instrumental songs are okay, I've listening to many OSTs that are much better, but I guess you can't expect much from a teen melodrama. The soundtrack versions of ENDLESS STORY and GLAMOROUS SKY have slight differences in the arrangement and are shorter than the original versions. All in all, this product could have been much more, especially for the price they charge. Hardcore Nana or Mika fans probably bought this just like me, and I don't know about others, but I'm disappointed. |
