　　故事發生在上個世紀二十年代。一個年輕的女子被強行塞入花轎，拼命的抗爭最終未能擺脫悲劇命運，好成了老爺的三姨太。在唱堂會、打麻將的消磨中，她利用短暫 機會與昔日戀人--戲班中年輕的武生相會，戀情卻被居心叵測的二太太發現。在二太太的告密下，老爺當場捉拿了越軌的這對戀人，幻想奪回寵愛的二太太換來的卻是老爺的一記耳光。在失間的痛苦中，二太太將滿院的紅燈籠撕得粉粹。震怒之中的老爺將一對戀人和二太太送上刑場。在死亡面前，他們盡釋前嫌，用愛和寬容彼此擁抱。
