Every bit as entertaining as the title promises, Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge pays winking tribute to cult films of today and yesterday with over-the-top action and an unabashedly fun story. Based on a novel by Takimoto Tatsuhiko, Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge is the debut feature from director Kitamura Takuji who wisely packs the film with wire-fu action, knife fights, crazy CGI, and silly goodness. Jumping between youth romance and action adventure, the film features starlet Seki Megumi (Honey and Clover) in shojo action heroine mode and popular actor Ichihara Hayato (Rainbow Song, All About Lily Chou-Chou) in a funny perm. Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge also co-stars up-and-coming actor Asari Yosuke (Always - Sunset on Third Street 2) and heartthrob Miura Haruma, still sporting his bleached Koizora hair.

After his buddy dies in a glorious motorcycle accident, Yosuke (Ichihara Hayato) vows to make something more of his nondescript life, starting with winning the heart of steely schoolgirl Eri (Seki Megumi). Pursuing Eri is a tad difficult, however, because she's busy every night waging battle against a mysterious chainsaw-wielding giant that's haunting the streets for some unknown reason. Between flying knives and kung fu fights, will Yosuke live to see that date?
