Soul...but not quite enough
|
I've recently heard this compilation and while I think it's an improvement from "the JPOP CD", my standards have already been elevated hence it still fell short of what I'd call fantastic. The tracklist is somewhat dated, but some songs are cornerstone R & B and soul hits so there's the compensation...whereas I felt that the hip-hop songs were a little out of place on a "soul" CD. It goes from mellow to "huh?" very quickly. I can safely say that all the j-rap songs were not something that I would have liked to hear on this CD but I'm sure those who DO like hip-hop will disagree. Overall, a great effort and the cover is nicer this time around as well :) |
