New Super Mario Bros (Japan Version) Nintendo DS

Mario, Luigi, and the rest of the old gang are back and better than ever in New Super Mario Bros, the first side-scrolling game in the Super Mario franchise since the release of Super Mario World way back in 1990! This long-awaited title marks a welcome return to the classic 2D settings of the past, complete with a retro gameplay feel, while also adding several new features to modernize things for contemporary gamers!

The plot isn't too far removed from the storylines of the past: It's Valentine's Day season in the Mushroom Kingdom, which should make for a festive mood, but unfortunately, trouble looms in paradise! It seems the beautiful Princess Peach has once again found herself taken captive by the dastardly Bowser and his son, the aptly named Bowser, Jr.! As usual, it's up to Mario and his brother, Luigi, to rescue the Princess. Gamers will find themselves running and jumping across numerous levels, collecting coins, and storming a variety of castles, all the while stomping any Koopa or Goomba who gets in their way!

As familiar as all that sounds, in this iteration, the game includes all sorts of new special power-ups like a huge mushroom that turns Mario and Luigi into giants and a Blue Shell for each of the plumber brothers to ride. Enemies old and new are scattered throughout the game, with all sorts of exciting new button-mashing challenges as a result of the Nintendo DS's unique dual screen capabilities. Even more exciting, the game allows for wireless play as friends can team up and play as Mario and Luigi in multiplayer mode! Considering all these bells and whistles, it's no secret that the Super Mario Bros series has never looked as good or played as well as it does in New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS!
