まことに小さな国が、開化期を迎えようとしている。／明治維新によって、はじめて「国家」というものをもち、「国民」になった日本人。近代国家をつくりあげようと少年のような希望を抱きながら突き進んだ「明治」という時代、四国は伊予松山に三人の男がいた。日露戦争において大きな役割を担った秋山好古・真之兄弟と、明治を代表する文学者・正岡子規である。このドラマは、三人の男の生涯を描くとともに、生まれたばかりの「少年の国」日本が世界という舞台でどうふるまったかという物語である。 2009年放送分の第一部全5話収録。
