The film is generally very slow, based on mundane everyday events. There is no comedy to speak of, and no real development of the main characters, which means when bad things happen to them, even tragedy, I didn't really care.
The 2 main men (Miriam's father and a worker at the same local market) appear to spend most of their free time with the same prostitute, which immediately suggests a lack of capacity to truly love and value a woman; and with the worker being Miriam's 'love interest' in the film...well, would you want your daughter to get into a relationship with a man who had sex with prostitutes on a regular basis?
There is very little chemistry between Miriam and Eason (the worker), or anyone else for that matter. Her acting is good, but she doesn't have much to work with.
Unless you're a diehard Miriam or Eason fan, give this one a miss. At least 'try before you buy' (borrow it from somewhere).

March 2, 2007 avoid!if u enjoy watching a girl getting beaten up and kicked a few times after she has been knocked down, then this is the film for u. I threw my copy in the bin. after seeing that scene thats all I could remember from the film, apart from the constant swearing. otherwise I might have quite liked it. Sound Of Colors
September 12, 2006 beautiful filmin my opinion this film is beautifully done. it is so rare nowadays to have a film for adults without any sex, violence or swearing.
i think tony and miriam play their parts very well and i thorougly enjoyed both performances. the storyline is simple but sweet. i found the way the two stories were intertwined delightful. they were both done so romantically (especially miriam and tonys).
the soundtrack is great too! (i plan to buy it)
i highly recommend this film. if youre not sure, try it on vcd 1st (only about £2) before you buy the dvd.

TAIPEI - i hated this one. i thought it was ok at the beginning and just got worse until i couldnt wait for the end. the japanese guys chinese sounded very poor, and while i know chinese is a difficult language to master, to have to listen to an absolute beginner with a very strong accent speak for a long time (and consistently get it wrong) was really grating. towards the end the girl asks the boy to pass on a message for her to her ex. when he gets back she asks him what her ex said. he spends the next 5 mins (literally) trying to tell her, making the same mistake over and over. we never do find out what her ex said! i never want to watch this film again.

SHANGHAI - this film is sweet and gentle, although i didnt sense any chemistry between the boy and girl despite a lot of interaction. i especially liked one scene where the girl looks at the boy through a glass. i thought this was a very clever and unique shot.

it made me chuckle a few times, but that was about it. most of the jokes seemed to require an intimate understanding of chinese culture, and even then i wonder how anyone would find them really funny.
the only good thing i can say about it was that there was nothing offensive in it.

March 18, 2006 AVOID!!!this film is terrible. it is just not funny. nearly all of the humour is disgusting (a man sucking a pigs tongue thinking its a womans tongue/ an accused murderer giving a chicken leg that hes kept in his anus to a prison guard/ someone looking for clues tasting a cats stool -twice! the list goes on. the plot is completely contrived and the romantic sub-plot is totally unbelievable, even for a comedy.
the courtroom scenes are a total farce. the only thing that impressed me was the british judges fluent cantonese.

March 16, 2006 disappointingi have just become a big fan of miriam, and after having seen love undercover was really looking 4ward 2 the sequel. after reading the reviews i didnt expect it to be as good as the 1st, but this film didnt even come close. its the 1st of miriams films that i have actually found boring. i only laughed twice the whole film (and not very loud) whereas the 1st film made me laugh nearly the whole way through.
often the acting was just painful to watch and so way out and over the top.

Shall We Dance? (Hong Kong Version)
October 2, 2005 nearly perfectthis is one of my favorite films of all time. i saw it in the cinema in 1997 and had to wait 8 years for it to be released in england! since i bought it a few months ago i have watched it 6 times (and counting).
it is unusual for a comedy in that if you let it, it will take you through a wide range of emotions including a few tears.
there are no unlikeable characters. some are hilarious. (watch aoki walk through the office and dancing in his wig) the lead is played very well. in fact all parts are played practically faultlessly.
every time i finish watching this film i want to go straight back to the beginning and watch it again.
suitable for the whole family. no sex, swearing or violence.
