The stage design was a bit quirky and the costumes were rather gothic. So yes, lots of black. I enjoyed to see all the urban toys came alive on the stage. I can sense a bit of subculture influence in his show. This concert is quite an enjoyable concert watch it again. It gives me a lot of pleasure. The whole concerts has a few different themes. He started his concert with The Messiah by Handel. It was executed flawlessly by well, I presumed it was the HK Philaharmonic. He started with non-stop singing and you can tell he was really enjoying the experience and completely drawn into his own music world. Watching DVD 1 and 2 give me a slight feeling of watching a live musical production as Eason was playing other character and the only communication was through the music as well as the acting and dancing. You don't hear any chatting or any gobbledegook This is a new experience for me especially from HK artist. I guess the only one that come close was Faye Wong as everybody knows she is an artist of no words but singing. It is a thrill ride as there were no distraction but just good music. I like how he keeps his playfulness toward the end of DVD 3. He started to get more casual and being a silly chatter-box at his encore session. He is a real silly, and down to earth artist which is so lovable. I enjoy his singing tremendously. I like his arrangement with the string quartet on DVD 2. His voice with the clean and crisp, but sometimes haunting and sombre music from the string quartet was absolutely brilliant. It really shows off his voice and how well he controls it. In this DVD surprises were everywhere. His performance was choreographed, which was a first for his audience and himself. What I can say about his move, no a bad dancer afterall. Eason is the real deal. He can sing, he can communicate, he can dance, he brings quirky sense of style to the stage. I think this DVD is absotely a gem for me. I think he has done it again. I would say this concert is even better than Third Encounter Eason Chan CD. I suggest that you check it out. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

July 7, 2006 Double Thumbs UpHaving a flat day and hence I went to Chinatown to splurge on CDs. Spent over $186. The first CD I took out from my shopping bag was Ivana Wong. I heard of her name from some HK music awards and some tabloids but never listen to her material before. My unreliable PC stops me from listening to canto and madarin pop online. Anyway, this lady completely blew me away. Her voice reminds me of my all time favourite diva, Faye Wong. The presentation of track 6 reminds me of Faye's earlier songs. Her voice is absolutely beautiful, flawless, so smooth, and velvety. The melody for Track 7 is so soft and gentle with acoustic guitar. It actually gives me goose bump. Sometimes less is more. Good voice with simple acoustic can be just as good. I was listening this album on a rainy day in Melbourne with a cup of tea and novel on my lap, so perfect. It gives me extra dose of enjoyment when I know that they write their own material. I hope her career will go from strength to strength. Good luck! Did you find this review helpful? February 13, 2006 fantastic butterflyI have to admit that I have never bought her album before. I decided to buy this album as I am fond of the story of the famous chinese folk tales and curious to find out how she interprets it in a modern way. This album is surprising sumptuous and so rich and loving it. I love Track 2, which I believe is one of the theme song of the album. The simple piano music really effective. THe melody is beautifully sad. Probably I have seen the MTV and I feel it even more. Track 4's arragement reminds me of Bjork. Track 5, she suddenly becomes a rock chick. It is kinda interesting with piano and the simple backup vocal at the interlude. Track 5 reminds me of a song from Karen Mok from her most brilliant album I heard, Golden Flowers. Track 6 suddenly become so quiet, but is suddenly exploded with electrifying sound. Absolutely rock! Track 7 with the simple melody is beautifully haunting. I love Track 9. I love the lyrics. The MTV is obcure but the the lyrics tell you all. It is one of my favourite other than Track 2 and track 13. The simple guitar and flute accompying the song are really beautiful. It is one of my favourite. Track 11 somehow has a very heavy theatrical flavourto it. The tempo slowly picked up and the bass slowly getting louder and rocker every minute. The melody has a sense of urgency. Track 12 is very nice and clean with just simply voice and piano. Sometimes is nice to hear simple melody with one instrument instead of over-arranged songs. I like the fact that they put a very simple and clean melody after a powerful rock song. It is kinda cleansing to your ear after a heavy song. It then bring you to somewhere a bit obscure. I like the prelude of Track 13. It gives me a strange feeling. It reminds me of some old films. This album has a lot of lovely tune with many styles. I did not feel bore. Worth every penny. December 28, 2005 Great Coffee Table BookKaren Mok, a Welsh, Chinese and Persian descent, an actress and singer, winner of multiples awards, multilingual, well versed in Chinese dance and also plays a variety of musical instrument including the Gu Zheng. Phew..... Those are some of the components that she stands out from other Hong Kong celebrities. She always intrigue me with her experimental music and her confidence, passion and her different approach to the media. This photo album take us all the way to the passionate Spain, the romantic Italy, the beautiful and mysterious Tibet and also colourful Hong Kong. It is beautifully shot, full of colours, multiples styles, makeups, hairdo, coutures, sceneries and famous quotes. It takes us all to different moods, styles and textures. I love some of the quotes she used. I dun believe in wearing fur myself and hence I love her quote "The skin and fur of animals belong on their bodies, not ours." The long hair clothes is fresh and seductive. I think it was a silent protest of not wearing fur. This album shows me that she is a versatile actor. She carries all the styles well and freely. I specially enjoy flipping and studying the outfit, the makeup, the sceneries and also some famous quotes. Each page is an excitement unlike some photo albums I have seen. Each page is something new and fresh. It captures the mood quite well. For example, she looked feminine, glamorous and romantic in Italy. Also did I mention her chinese opera diva style. I think we need to show more of Chinese culture and we should be proud of it too. The fabric, the costumes of Chinese opera and the makeup were flawless. I also love to mention the experimental makeup she put on towards to the end of the book. It is not for amateur, even to look at. Towards the end, while you thought there are more closed ups of her with fancy couture or makeup or hairdo, they refresh your tastebud with a set of Karen Mok sequence shot of being masculine. That is totally unexpected. It is wicked when you see her shaving like a man, act like a man. This album gives me a chance see her say in her masterpiece. It is a coffee table book. Great effort. Should check it out Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
June 21, 2001 Fun album
Karen Mo always gives me a surprise. She always try the new style of music. Her voice is not the greatest but when she sings, she has the kind of passion and uniqueness that make you want to know more. She makes her song interesting. Her songs are always unusual. It contains many styles like hip hop, funk, rock, a bit of slow rap. In this album, she has successfully explored to the next level. It is not the kind of music that will suit everybody, especially my family. But it has its qualities that is unexplainable. I love the blend of music. If you ready to explore music and their varieties to a new level, I think this album is definitely your prerequisite. It has lots of fun in this album, you can tell music can be fun and unlimited, no barriers. Well, I have to say, Karen Mo has done it again, Bravo! Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
