Coinciding with author Dazai Osamu's 100th birthday, producer Kadokawa Tsuguhiko and director Arato Genjiro take on the first film adaptation of the tortured author's novel Ningen Shikakku (a.k.a. No Longer Human). For his ambitious production, Kadokawa gathers an all-star cast which includes Ikuta Toma, Iseya Yusuke, Terajima Shinobu, Ishihara Satomi, and V6's Morita Go. As the producer of the controversial independent film Whispering of the Gods, which could only be shown in a theater built with his own money, Arato is not a director who shies away from dark topics, making him the perfect choice for the project.

Completed soon before Dazai's suicide, Ningen Shikakku is a gloomy, semi-autobiographical story about a man's fall from grace and the loss of human conscience. The film stars Johnny's artist Ikuta Toma as Oba Yozo, a man who is consumed by his alienation from those around him. Unable to get over a childhood trauma, Oba goes on a path of self-destruction with alcohol and woman - a dangerous mix that will prove to be fatal.
