Every summer NTV holds the telethon charity event 24 Hour Television Special, bringing together artists, comedians, and idols together for a 24-hour marathon show that includes many special performances, variety challenges, and a touching special mini-drama. For the 2009 edition of 24 Hour Television, Johnny's group NEWS served as the main personalities/hosts, and member Nishikido Ryo starred in the special drama Nini no Koto wo Wasurenaide along with Hey! Say! JUMP's Yamada Ryosuke, Tanaka Rena, Shirakawa Yumi, and Jinnai Takanori. Based on a true story, Nini no Koto wo Wasurenaide is about a young man diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor at the age of 15. Told he only has one year left to live, he angrily lashes out at those around him and refuses treatment. With the help of his family, he slowly gets back up to fight the disease, and lives to the age of 23.

15歳で脳腫瘍を発病し、死と向き合う日々を送る恵介は、孤独と不安に苛まれていた。『夢を持つことも、将来を考えることも許されないのか』という行き場のない想いは、やがて最愛の母親に向かっていく。治療を諦め、暴力まで振るうようになった恵介に、母親は親としての無力さを嘆き、共に死ぬことさえ考える。『なんで生まれてきたかは、自分自身で決めることなの』という言葉に、恵介はみずからが生まれてきた意味を考え…。

2009年の"24時間テレビ"にて放送された、愛と命の輝きをテーマにしたスペシャル・ドラマ。川上ますみの『にぃにのことを忘れないで—脳腫瘍と闘った8年間』をベースに、15歳で脳腫瘍を発病し、23歳という若さでこの世を去った少年の闘病生活を描いていく。一度は地獄の淵に立ちながら、生き抜くことを選んだ少年の心の変化を丹念に追い、好評を博した。
2009年"24時間テレビ"のメインパーソナリティを務めた錦戸亮が、主人公を好演。原作者である母親を黒木瞳、父親は陣内孝則が演じるなど、共演陣にも豪華な顔ぶれが揃っている。
