With the strong backing of Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To, Mainland singer-songwriter Ngok Mei (a.k.a. Yue Wei) is making a splash with her debut EP No. 01! Before she signed to To's Milkyway Image, she had won awards in several singing competitions, including first runner-up at TVB's New Talent Singing Awards. Her real shot to fame came when the renowned director appointed her to sing the theme song of his new film Life Without Principle, which screened in competition at the 68th Venice Film Festival. Ngok Mei composed the songs on the EP herself, including the aforementioned theme song "Water Flooding the Gold Mountain". Besides overseeing the recording, To also gathered a top-notch production team for the EP, with Peter Kam and Taz Tan serving as producers, Bruce Yu as image consultant, and Lin Xi, Keith Chan, Vincent Fang, and Xiaohan penning the lyrics.
