A perfect match of talents
A perfect match of talents
| This album, in some sense, represents Mondo Grosso (Shinichi Osawas) attempt to produce a solo female artist star. All of the music on this album is written, and for the most part played, by Osawa himself. Theres no doubt that if you are already familiar with his works, then you will recognize his touch on this album. However, this album is not supposed to be about Osawas work as much as it should be about Eris voice. And this, I believe, it accomplished very well. There are definitely tracks on here that get you moving, but they all only do this to get the listener more deeply caught up in Eris voice. Overall, the feeling of this album is quite subdued. It has a pop sense about it, but its behind a veil of a sense of surrealism. This feeling is created entirely out of the unique synergy between Osawas music and Eris voice. What is absolutely wonderful about this album, though, is that there is not a single bad track, or a single track that you will not remember or feel was unremarkable. The amount of time and effort that was involved in creating this album is very apparent in this way. As for Eris voice, it is, at times, quite smoky, and yet she manages a fairly natural tone throughout the majority of her songs. There is an absolutely intense and quite impressive moment on the track Voice where she reaches and maintains quite a high note in the midst of an accelerating bridge. I dont think there really is anyone who wouldnt like something about this album, and I highly recommend it. Favorite tracks were Sing A Song, Inner Glow, Voice, and Yume No Kakera. |

I discovered Eri Nobuchika after playing the PSP game "Lumines". After 90 levels you get to the "Lights" skin, which features Eri's single with the same name. When I played that level, I got tears in my eyes. It's a combination of the wonderful music, voice, and sheer gaming fatigue. I rarely cry, but that was one of those moments. Some time later I found out that "I hear the music in my soul" was also sung by Eri Nobuchika. When I heard it, I swore it was some Diana Ross person, and I was pleasantly surprised it was this 20 year old Japanese girl. "Voice" is another great song. I'd call it a dance-track, but a damn classy one. I run it constantly in the car, and catch myself speeding everytime the chorus kicks in. The last song I heard was "Kodou". This song has a surprising jazzy feel to it, and displays the amazing maturity of Eri's performance. She sounds like a woman in her early thirties, still vibrant yet scarred and carrying truckloads of memories and experiences. The fact that she wrote all of her songs herself is the icing on the cake. It makes all her songs more personal. Her sense of "musicality", wonderful voice and level of maturiry make this album a remarkable debut, indeed. To conclude, if you're looking for a very talented Japanese pop artist and singer-songwriter with a wonderful voice and great songs, you might wanna check this album out. |
