Meanwhile, cheerful piano wunderkind Nodame (Ueno Juri) continues to struggle to balance her devotion to Chiaki and her studies at the music academy.

Aspiring to meet her boyfriend's level, Nodame starts to work harder than ever to improve her craft. However, Nodame's opportunity to fulfill her dream of performing with Chiaki on the same stage is thwarted when famous piano prodigy Rui (Yamada Yu) steps in. As Nodame hits her lowest point, Maestro Stresemann (Takenaka Naoto) decides to give Nodame a chance that rocks the classical music world. Will Nodame and Chiaki ever come to terms with each other's talents?

Part 1
Chiaki (Hiroshi Tamaki) has just won the competition and being named new conductor for the Le Marlet Orchestra which is a ragtag group of tackluster musicians with no unity or desire. When Chiaki asks Nodame to perform with his orchestra as celesta for Rave's Bolero, she is beside herself with joy until circomstances lead to her giving way to gifted pianist, Rui (Yu Yamada). Nodame is crushed, but suppresses her shock.

Will Chiaki be able to revive a broken down orchestra and launch his musical career? And what will become of Nodame and Chiaki's relationship ?

Part 2
Nodame (Juri Ueno) is still pining for Chiaki's (Hiroshi Tamaki) unconditional affection as she struggles to mature and find her own place in the musical world. The couple's quirky and farcically clumsy love affair begins to mature into a somber and serious adult love story as the final chapter unlfolds.

Nodame Cantabile Part Two offers a spectacular orchestral score, turning movie theaters into virtural concert halls. Thrown in plenty of laughs, tears and emotion, and you get a spectacular climax to a growing legend that promises to settle once and for all the question of what lies ahead for Nodame and Chiaki. Will the Nodame-Chiaki concerto finally come to pass?
And will their love triumph?

A comic musical treat Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
The two "Nodame Cantabile" movies must be seen as two chapters of the same movie; the ending of the first film simply is a set-up for the second film. Although I am unfamiliar with the manga and with the TV series that preceded these movies, my ignorance didn't detract much from the experience of watching this story unfold. Chiaki (Tamaki Hiroshi), an orchestra conductor and pianist, is a rising star in the world of classical music. His love interest and apartment-mate Nodame (Ueno Juri) is a budding piano student whose greatest desire is to perform under Chiaki's direction.

In Part 1, Chiaki's career races ahead of Nodame. He is given charge of a down-and-out Parisian orchestra and attempts to whip them into a semblance of mastery. Nodame flounders, fearing that she will become left behind in the dust of Chiaki's meteoric rise. In Part 2, Nodame falls under the spell of bizarre Maestro Stresemann (Takenaka Naoto, who else?). Can the Maestro help Nodame grow into a true artist? Will Nodame realize her dream of performing under Chiaki?

Told in a fanciful comic style (including the weirdness of seeing Western performers not only dubbed in Japanese but adopting Japanese mannerisms), "Nodame Cantabile" offers a delightful introduction to the world of classical music. While the movies include lots of silliness, they take the music very seriously and will not fail to create new fans for the musical genre. Tamaki Hiroshi is suitably dashing as the brilliant young conductor. Ueno Juri is endearing as the struggling pianist, although she occasionally overacts her character's flights of fantasy. I found both films to be quite enjoyable.
