Internationally acclaimed Hong Kong film director Zhang Che (a.k.a. Chang Cheh), the man behind such perennial martial arts classics as The One Armed Swordsman and The Chinatown Kid, helms the 1982 Shaw Brothers production, Ode to Gallantry! Based on the delightful Jing Yong wuxia novel of the same name, this penultimate "Venoms" film features Kuo Chue (Ten Tigers from Kwantung and Hard Boiled) in a starring role, as he takes on the challenging task of portraying two very different characters: one man is a clan chieftain, while the other is a hapless vagabond!

In this entertaining, surprisingly lighthearted martial arts extravaganza, the latter wanderer-type played by Kuo Chue finds himself being confused with his doppelganger time and time again. With each case of mistaken identity, he becomes drawn into a number of heated conflicts between several rival schools and gangs - a dilemma that he just isn't prepared to deal with! As he is pulled to and fro by circumstances, there's no telling where the day will take him! By the film's end, he's sure to learn some valuable lessons about brotherhood and honor, but at what price? In condensing this epic work for the silver screen, Zhang Che packs the film full of novelistic intrigue that's sure to engage audiences. Thanks to some excellent performances from the film's cast (including Sun Chien, Candy Wen, and Wang Li), and the winning action choreography courtesy of several of the famous Venom Mob, Ode to Gallantry amounts to an expertly crafted, action-packed kung fu fight-fest that's sure to entertain!

　　大導演張徹將金庸名著改編搬上銀幕，動用龐大演員陣容，包括由郭追分飾推動故事發展的骨幹人物石中玉、石中堅兄弟、文雪兒飾女主角叮噹、唐菁飾玄素莊莊主石清、劉慧玲飾閔柔、王力飾「摩天居士」謝煙客等等。故事講述石中堅自幼隨養母梅芳姑於深山居住，一日偶拾「玄鐵令」，並得謝煙客傳授武功，卻被長樂幫幫眾誤認為幫主石中玉；及後更被叮噹所騙，願意替石中玉到雪山派代罪領死。最後真相大白，石中堅竟為石清失散多年的兒子……本片結構緊湊，情節曲折奇詭，既描寫武林恩怨，也刻劃江湖兒女情，顯示了金庸作品的超凡造詣以及張徹導演手法的老到功力，是一部不可多得的佳作。

　　After bursting on the kung-fu film scene in the internationally revered The Five Venoms, and starring in many "bloody good" movies, this is generally considered the "Venoms'" second-to-last effort... But what a penultimate adventure it is. Their usual hero, Kuo Chue takes on an amazing dual role and the complications and kung-fu which ensue are wonderful to watch. Even judged by the exceptional standards of the "Venom" films, this one stands out.
