Good-bye to Hello Project`s greatest stylist
| Aya Matsuura is leaving Hello Project and gives us the album Omoiafurete as a parting gift, which, over some time, I have come to appreciate greatly. To me, it isn`t an immediately accessible album, as Aya has (for the most part) abandoned her peppy, bouncy and fun style with songs that made you sit up and take notice the moment they started playing. I am not sure whether she has abandoned her hit-making potensial as well. I think not - several of these songs could easily be hits or at least fan favourites, but it it a fact that they need more time and airplay than her earlier smashes. Also most songs are ballads, only track 4 "Boomboomboom" (which is almost addictive) and track 6 (Rescue! Resque!) are fast (and very good) tracks. That does not mean they`re not superbly sung and beautifully orchestrated, the title track being an excellent example of this. I think I will always be an Aya fan no matter what she choses to do, though it was her old style that got me hooked to begin with. I can`t wait for Aya`s next! Thank you for all those great albums Ayaya. |
