The movie was touching. LBH did an excellent job: he was charming as the young student in the village - experiencing a different life from the kind he lives in Seoul. His performance as the older professor was restrained and believable. Soo Ae was wonderful in her role as the librarian who's caught up in the politics of the time and as a young woman in love. The movie had all the elements of a tragic love story - complete with an appropriately themed song. |

I thought the movie was just average at a slow pace. I have seen far worse movie than Once in a Summer. As a result, i'm giving it an average rating. |

Disappointing

I agree totally with the sentiments given by the reviewer "Tuesday". I found my mind wandering when I watched this film which is something I dont ordinarily do when Lee Byung Hun is on the screen. There is zero chemistry between the two leads and the film fails to convince the viewer that what these two shared in one short summer was special and intense enough to last a lifetime. Not up to LBH's usual standard. When I remember how great "Addicted" and "JSA" are, never mind the truly fantastic "A Bitter Sweet Life" I am quite surprised that LBH has regressed to this. |

Ranks with La Strada! LBH extends his range of characters with this part and SA is her usual, adorable self. The characters and themes can not be explored to the extent they would in a 20 episode TV dorama, but Once in a Summer is a truly wonderful, memorable, albeit sad, experience. Buy this film! And P.S., once you find her, NEVER let her go! |

i got bored with this movie, due to the fact that there is no chemistry between LEE BYUNG HUN and SOO AE. i think LBH didn't act at his best in this movie. he lost his screen luster in this one. lame storyline and slow-paced. it cannot even justify its claim in its synopsis that the memory(ies)lasted a lifetime...my goodness! i didn't even see the beauty of their 10-day LOVE STORY...and how unconvincingly it spanned for 30 years...in his memory...i hope LBH will act with someone that has matured acting and can create chemistry with him. SOO AE is a good actress, but not the right choice for this movie... |
