Oxide Pang, one half of the twin brother directorial team behind Bangkok Dangerous and The Eye, helms the 2001 film One Take Only. With Danny Pang co-producing, the film centers on Bank (Pawarit Mongkolpisit, who portrayed the deaf-mute hitman in Bangkok Dangerous), a small-time drug runner who falls for the beautiful Som (Chalermporn Paprach), a schoolgirl who is forced to prostitute herself on the mean streets of Bangkok. Initially, their romance distracts the new couple from the harsh realities of their current "professions," but when Bank learns the truth about his new girlfriend's sordid occupation, he asks her to leave that life behind. In an effort to make up the difference, Bank begins dealing even more drugs to help support both of them. Luckily enough, one drug deal turns out to be a huge score, allowing the two lovers to get a glimpse of the high life for once. But just as things seem to be going well, the prospect of an even bigger drug deal appears on the horizon, and that possibility turns out to be far too enticing for either to pass up. Theoretically, if they follow through, the two of them will be wealthy beyond their wildest dreams, but at what price? Will Bank and Som find a happy ending? Or are they simply pressing their luck? Eschewing a script in favor of on-set improvisation, director Oxide Pang crafts a daring, visually kinetic film that offers a slice of life about street youth living in seedier side of Bangkok. Shot mainly in black and white with occasional fantasy sequences in color, One Take Only is a cinematic feast for the eyes and an exhilarating motion picture to boot!
