a wonderful style change for beloved Folder5 soloi

After almost a year long hiatus, AKINA is back with a brand new single release. Miyazato Akina, under the pseudonym AKINA, is the 18 year old leader of the five member girl group, Folder5, also backed up by Avex Records. AKINA has a really pleasant, powerful voice that ends up being dwarfed behind the four other members. But as a solo artist, her true vocals can finally shine, and in "One Wish" they definitely do. The c/w to "One Wish", "Without you" is quite a change in style for AKINA. This song has a soft rock-edge with a smooth, balladic tone; compared to her other songs thus far, this barely sounds like the same girl. This is yet another good song that shows off her strong vocals: an upbeat rhythm and a progressive, mainstream sound, her voice surprisingly fits in with the music quite well. She reminds me of Bonnie Pink a bit in this song. |
