　　A gem in every sense of the word, Our Dream Car features popular idols Ge Lan (Grace Chang) and Chang Yang as a couple of newlyweds who struggle hard to acquire the latest symbol of middle-class affluence: a motor car, but only find themselves in alienating situations. Yi Wen’s script is full of lively and humourous details, his direction affectionate, while the young stars are charming. The film also paints a picture of a bourgeois lifestyle that was yet to occur in the ex-colony. It has also been aptly compared to the genre of Hollywood “bedroom” comedy made famous by Rock Hudson and Doris Day in the 1950s.

I love old Cathay movies so was really happy when YesAsia.com created the Cathay Library Series. Thank you for that.

The movie is definitely entertainment; another Collector's item.

My Dream Actress: Ge Lan Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Is it possible to take your eyes off of Ge Lan's compelling performance in "Our Dream Car"? For me, it wasn't. Ge Lan looks absolutely stunning and rivets our attention with her subtle, yet emphatic, performance in this otherwise slight movie. The chemistry between Zhang Yang and her brings this simple story to life.

Downsides: A couple of the scenes have a washed-out appearance, the actress who plays Miss Zhu is hopelessly amateurish, and my copy of the DVD fractures into pixels at the very end of the movie.

This is not an overly dramatic film; it presents a loving young couple emerging stronger after experiencing a couple minor spats, nothing more. However, it beautifully depicts a simpler time in a Hong Kong that bears little resemblance to today's revved-up mega-city. I recommend "Our Dream Car" for a general audience.

"this is enough! This is all I want.? Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Said Ge Lan as she held an anniversary card from Zhang Yang in her hand.

This rather neglected film is one of my favorite but somehow it does not get deserved attention. It was well written, well directed, and excellent played by both Ge Lan and Zhang Yang.

The story is simple but coherent and well thought. The screenplay is intelligent and full of wisdom and humor.

There are moments in the film so subtle that only repeated watching can you realize their existence. For example, after fought with Zhang Yang on the sewing trouser by the other lady, Ge Lan pointed to the door and shouted to him: “If you want to be insane, please go to that room!? The next scene we saw Ge Lan walked to the car next morning. When she found out Zhang Yang had slept in the car all night before, she couldn’t hide her funny smile to him but she soon changed back to anger when she realized he was looking at her. Why she had a funny smile? My interpretation is: Zhang Yang slept in the “car?instead of “neighbor lady’s room? Hadn’t she found him in the car, she would be either worry or fury.

This movie shows how strong a woman (as portrayed by Ge Lan) can be. Talk about feminism! When Ge Lan fought with Zhang Yang, she had dominated all their conversations. She angered about the trouser event and all the sudden we found out all his childishly raging are irrational and at the same time she was absolute right because all the proof has been laid in front of her! Zhang Yang found himself lost in the arguments and started to behave even more irrational and childish. He blamed Ge Lan’s decision of buying car, spent money on clothes, and attended Dream Car Pageant. It sounds like these are all her faults. Ge Lan did not put up with this nonsense and answered back with those were all his decision. And we, as audiences, know she is right all the time! When Zhang Yang raised his hand with a hitting gesture, she stared at him with tremendous expression. Zhang Yang’s hand was literally “frozen?in the air! How can you drop your hand on a lady who has won all the arguments from you and more importantly: she is absolute right? The only thing you (yes, as a man) can do is to sit back and pay awe and admiration to this beautiful lady. And this was just what Zhang Yang did in the film.

Admiration is not enough to praise Ge Lan’s acting capability. We adore her. She is not just a good actress; she is the best actress I have ever seen. What she stands out from others cannot be summarized in just few words. Here I give some of my opinions about her acting. You can never mix your impression of Lee Jia Ying (Our Dream Car) with Lin Ker Ping (Air Hostess), Lee Kai Ling (Mambo girl), Deng Si Jia (Wild Rose), Yu Li Ying (Forever Yours). They are all unique individual beings with different personality. It amazes me that all these lovely ladies were performed by the same person! Ge Lan performed each role as an individual being such that you can never find the image of Lee Jia Ying in Lin Ker Ping or vise versa! Her successful as an actress not only just because of her full-colored body languages (which is already rare among others, then and now), but also how artful she applied her body languages to different roles she played. Or should I say: she didn’t play them. She grew with them. She IS Lee Jia Ying. She IS Lin Ker Ping. She IS Lee Kai Ling. She IS Deng Si Jia. She IS Yu Li Ying. She literally gave life to each fictitious woman on the screen. If you are moved by the ladies she portrayed, how can you not adore her as a real woman?

A truly wonderful film!

Ge Lan shines and delights in stylish comedy Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Back in simpler times when there were no computer generated explosions, movies were filled with clean,
charming people trapped in simple predicaments and within a time frame of less than two hours, everything comes to a nice satisfying resolution. Think of those
Doris Day Rock Hudson comedies, think of them in a HK
setting and you will get "Our Dream Car" ! Ge Lan as usual presents another charming, delightful performance
as the wife who can't make up her mind whether a car or
a good marriage means more and Chang Yang play the husband who can't do enough to please his wife without
getting into trouble....not exactly life threathening
situations but something most people can relate to...
this movie is well written, well acted and yes, with Ge Lan in it,you will even get a "Duet" song where she sang with herself ! (in split screens, naturally !)
All in all, charming actors, delightful story, wonderful entertainment !
