A trip through rose-colored glasses to a simpler, more sentimental time, Our Sister Hedy is one of the standout films from the Cathay Studios library, and a fine showcase for star actresses Mu Hong, Julie Yeh, Lin Cui, and Soo Fung. The four actresses play sisters to a sole parent, patriarch Wang Yuanlong, who must come to terms with the fact that his four precious and unique daughters are reaching the age of marriage, and will soon be leaving him for their own lives. Meanwhile, the sisters entertain various suitors and go about their daily lives. They also bicker and banter, but are always there for one another in their individual struggles to maintain the independence - or simply to be heard! A loving look at the dynamics of family, and the bond of sisterhood which unites above all, Our Sister Hedy is another wonderful film from Cathay Studios, and mixes comedy, drama, and even a little pathos with a sweet tone that can only be called nostalgia.

　　A romantic comedy classic in every sense of the words, Our Sister Hedy depicts the intriguing love affairs of four sisters who would easily remind one of the four female protagonists in Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. But scriptwriter and director Tao Qin was clever enough to update Alcott's novel to contemporary Hong Kong in the late fifties, adding to it "one car-crash, a two-way catfight, three musical numbers and a long series of parties, around which major drama always occur" (quoted from the booking brochure of Back to Dreamland, Cathay Retrospective, organized by the Hong Kong Film Archive). The film features one of the first (and finest) performances of Julie Yeh Feng and Jeanette Lin Cui. The former gives an almost unprecedented portrayal of a nymph-like compulsive seductress in the Hong Kong cinema, whilst the latter, a tomboyish young woman who is more interested in arranging the marriages for her elder sisters than her own. The film won the Best Film Award at the 5th Asian Film Festival. Its enormous popularity prompted a sequel, Wedding Bells for Hedy in 1959.
