good
| It was not easy for foreigners to grasp the first half of the story but the second half is touching and enjoyable. It demonstrates the power of true love so effectively and it is nice to see a good ending. Well done. |

Excellent Production
| The theme song is excellent. I watch the MV. The singer is so pretty and the song is excellent. The song and the singer is a good match. I seldom give any comment about singer and songs from China. But the theme song is so great that I ever heard such a good song. Anyway, is excellent , 5 thumbs up!!!! |

I enjoyed it
|
I got this movie because it has the three Chinese actresses I like. I want to see them interacting with each other on screen. I like the story and enjoyed the costumes, sceneries. I guess I am easier to please than some of the critics. here. The only thing I don't like is that this DVD cannot be played on my regular TV. My TV rejected this disc so I can only play in on my computer. It makes it less enjoyable. I got a Korean TV series on the same day and no problem playing on my regularTV. So, does that mean the quality of this Chinese production is not as good so a Korean disc? |

Engaging tale of love and demons
| The first ten or fifteen minutes of "Painted Skin" had me fearing the worst; they seemed to be heavy on technical flash and light on substance. However, as the film progressed, the fine actors in this cast had an opportunity to let their characters live and breathe. "Painted Skin" is based loosely (very loosely!) on one of the stories from author Pu Songliang's classic "Strange Tales from the Liaozhai Studio". Damsel in distress Xiaowei (Zhou Xun) takes refuge in the home of soldier Wang Sheng (Aloys Chen), where she promptly seeks to woo Wang's affections away from his loving wife Peirong (Zhao Wei). But is Xiaowei the damsel in distress she seems or is there more to her than meets the eye? The film nicely balances its related tales of romantic intrigue and demon-hunting, with Donnie Yen and Betty Sun in fine form as "demon busters". The film looks great, the actors give uniformly solid performances (with Zhou Xun and Betty Sun the real standouts for me), and the story intrigues right to the satisfying end. I highly recommend this film and I highly recommend "Strange Tales from the Liaozhai Studio". |
