YesAsia Editorial Description

How much do you know about those around you? Or rather, how much do you really care? Based on the novel by Yoshida Shuichi and starring five of Japan's most prolific young actors, the basic setup of director Yukisada Isao's Parade - about five young people sharing an apartment in Tokyo - may seem straight out of a Japanese clone of Friends. However, Yukisada (leaving his usual commercial cinema route behind) explores the characters in an episodic fashion, taking his time to reveal the dark inner lives of these seemingly normal people. The winner of the FIPRESCI jury prize at the Berlin Film Festival, Parade is a surreal and sometime shocking observation about isolation in modern urban life that you're unlikely to forget long after its surprising conclusion.

Naoki (Fujiwara Tetsuya, Death Note) works in a movie distribution company and lives with three other flatmates - college student Ryosuke (Koide Keisuke), illustrator Mirai (Karina, Umizaru), and unemployed actress Kotomi (Kanjiya Shihori, Swing Girls). Each of them lead their own lives, only seeing each other during those several minutes when they happen to be in the apartment together. That's why when young blonde stranger Satoru (Hayashi Kento, Battery) starts sleeping over, the occupants simply assume that he's someone's acquaintance until they realize the truth and let him stay anyway. However, as Satoru's presence in the flat grows along with reports of a serial killer in the neighborhood, the occupants begin to suspect who their new flatmate really is.
