Writer/Producer/Director/Actress extraordinaire Sylvia Chang, possibly the hardest working woman in Hong Kong show business, first proved her multitalented mettle with Passion, an elegiac drama from 1986. An established screen actress who had previously dabbled with some behind-the-camera work, Chang's triple credits for writing, directing, and starring in Passion earned her multiple nominations at the Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Awards (she took home Best Actress at both events, and was nominated for Best Director at the 1986 Golden Horse Film Festival). To this day, Chang remains one of the industry's most successful renaissance women. Not too shabby for the girl who started out in flower vase roles for old Golden Harvest kung fu movies.

Sylvia and Cora Miao play two widowed mothers, best friends and confidants who spend their days reminiscing about times past. Over the course of a lazy weekend afternoon, the two women conjure memories of Cora's husband, his life, his death, and his passionate affair with Sylvia. A series of wistful flashbacks reveal the sometimes touching, sometimes painful circumstances around the women's deep friendship with one another, and their love for the same man.

Silvia and Cora are very good friends for many years. Both of them are widows and each has a daughter living with them. On a brightly-shining Saturday afternoon, two old friends just stay at the balcony, chattering and reminiscing. With or with no intention, some hidden things on their minds, even the love affairs between Silvia and Cora’s husband, George, are being raised and touched. Thus, the two great friends seem to be walled up. However, they have to live and thing would past no matter how serious they are. The two bosom friends then enter the restaurant with smiling faces as if nothing has happened.

Excellent love triangle tale Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
In "Passion" Cora Miao plays an attorney's secretary who becomes engaged to marry her boss (George Lam). Sylvia Chang plays Cora's best friend who lets herself grow far too fond of Cora's fiance. "Passion" lets its love-triangle story unfold at a natural, deliberate pace and does so with a discretion and maturity that we seldom see on the silver screen. Lam, Chang, and Miao all deliver finely-modulated, moving performances, but for me Cora Miao leaves the most unforgettable impression. The sensitivity of her performance is amazing! Sylvia Chang delivers a grand slam by writing, producing, directing and acting in this fine film. To top it off, as the closing credits roll, we hear one of George Lam's best ballads. Very highly recommended.

the plot is well thought of. the movies goes step by step, telling you the past history of a lawyer. it just makes you want to find out the whole story. it also makes you think, what would you do if you are the lawyer.
