I'm sorry, Namie, but when I first got this album, every song from LOVE GAME to FIRST TIMER sounded like one humongous track. I like LOVE GAME and MY LOVE the most, but although I love Namie to death, this album is just a little too contemporary for my taste. |

Sorry dear Namie and your producers, this is not a bad album but it's from STYLE (2003) that your albums sound all the same! Thanks God this is better than PLAY, and there is at least one ballad, but the album flows like an only 1 long track again. I really like all the songs in PAST < FUTURE (I really do!) but every track reminds me of another of the past, and if this thing could be good at first listen, because the melody stucks immediately in your head, it's instead bad after few listens. What a contraddition that you are ripping the BEST FICTION poster and you entitled this album PAST < FUTURE when most of the songs include samples from your past releases! 4/5 stars because of the lack of fantasy. |

Amuro's star still shines bright

I’ve only had this CD for a couple of days, but I am beginning to think that this may be Amuro’s best album yet. It’s mostly new material, but the inclusion of WILD and Dr. from her previously released single is nice for those who don’t already have them. I usually prefer up-tempo songs, and most of the tracks fit into that category with FAST CAR, COPY THAT and Defend Love being my favorites so far, but The Meaning Of Us is a lovely ballad. And I don’t usually comment on the engineering, but my humble speakers never sounded so good. The DVD is worth having, too. The animated Defend Love is a nice continuation to the previously released Dr. video and the production values on FAST CAR are outstanding - sets, wardrobe, the works. Amuro looks more beautiful than ever, if that’s possible, without resorting to blatant cheesecake as a lot of other female pop singers do. Amuro is a class act. |

I must say, this album blew me away. Namie is back with a new flavor along with her classic sound! Fast Car is the released single and I must say that it’s.. different on first listen and takes a minute for your brain to wrap around what she’s trying to accomplish. However, it really reels you in and the PV is gorgeous. COPY THAT was used in a CM Namie starred and really has a driving sound. It has an old school beach sound mixed with techtonic sounds. LOVE GAME brings out her classic hip-hop side. The PV is very creative using a game interface that puts dancers against one another. The message really comes through and this track is really strong. However, overall, BAD HABIT is the strongest track (composition and creative wise) with hip-hop drums, synthesized flowing beats and really nice electronic vocals. This is my favorite non-single track on the album. MY LOVE is also another track with her classic hip-hop sound. FIRST TIMER (feat. DOBERMAN INC) is the most interesting track by Namie yet. The beats are so confusingly amazing. They trance beats flows together in the most unexpected ways and DOBERMAN INC sounds really good with the track. His rap fits the song well and I wish he were on some of her older songs. Defend Love is another hardcore trance track. The one ballad, The Meaning of Us is gorgeous. Her vocals are perfect and the simple mixture of harps, piano, and some acoustic strings gives the listener a heavenly feeling. This album truly unravels Amuro Namie’s hidden musical interests in different beats and changing the rules in the general j-pop sound. This album is unique and I love it! ^^ |
