Really Cool

I enjoy all tracks on this single, but my favorite is definitely "Perseus"! It's has cool background music and Shimatani's voice is absolutely irresistable. The melody is sooooooo good - I'm never giving away my copy of "Perseus"! I admire Shimatani because her style is so unique compared to other artists. I would describe her style as consisting of traditional Asian instruments mixed with modern instruments and I would place her in the jpop genre. If you enjoy jpop of any sort, I recommend this CD. |

Catching beat - very J-Pop!
| This is a great CD, what attracted me to this single was its title - Perseus. A very catchy melody that stays in your head for some time. Nice to listen to if you need your spirits lifted! |

Shimatani Hitomi has been taking some flak in the world of J-Pop for her excessive amount of cover songs lately, as well as what some consider to be a somewhat generic "Japanese Idol" style. And, to be honest, I wasn't extraordinarily excited about this single. However, I was totally shocked and amazed when I hit the play button. This is a much different style than any of her previous efforts. It could be best described as the combination of a traditional, almost mysterious far-asian sounding melody, with an excellent beat and trancelike arrangement. I really can't even make a good comparison to any other artist or song. And as usual, the vocals are of the solid quality that one can always expect from this polished singer. The lyrics sort of follow the "Perseus" theme to some extent(Perseus was the son of Zeus and a mortal woman, who defeated medusa using the mirrored shield), although, it's nothing revolutionary in the world of Japanese lyrics, more of just love song lyrics. Still, they're pretty decent and flow well. I would go with the 10 here, because this is my favorite single in a very long time, but I am biased, being a big fan of both trance and Shimatani Hitomi. Still, I strongly recommend this single, especially to anyone falling into one of the two above categories. |
