September 5, 2005 Not to spectactular movie but irresistably charmin
The story and the plot itself are not much to marvel at but the cast and the jokes will make any fan smile for hours. I remember seeing Leslie Cheung in his elvis outfit and I just could not help but feel giddy. Lau Ching Wan also plays a rather ridiculous cop but he plays it with such intensity and determination that the weirdness and rudeness of the character all work out in the end to give audiences one hiliarious time watching. September 3, 2005 Forget the plot!As with all Wong Kar Wai movies audiences MUST ignore what perceptions of plot or what expectations of plot that they see or have. The plot does not matter because Wong Kar Wai is telling a story not making a point. He shows you the journey of the characters and he does not really tell you what happens before or after. He makes you live in the moment, that is how he makes his films, momentary, spontaneous, natural, unrehearsed.
The brilliance of this film come from the never-before-seen performances and epic characterization from the all star cast of Leslie Cheung, Brigitte Lin, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Carina Lau, Maggie Cheung, Jacky Cheung. Their performances are each very short but they each tell their own character's story so well with such persence and charisma that the film itself, although disjointed just seems epic and unforgettable. They key is to appreciate the movie for each of its stories and performances of each character and not the movie as a whole. This movie tells multiple stories that revolve around Leslie CHeungs character, but Do not try to look at the whole picture, it is not supposed to be a perfect story with your run of the mill plot and lessons learned and perfect happy ending!
PS: do not buy the DVD version, it is absolutely horrible to look at! It has picture quailty like if not worse than VCD quaility, and they sound is often dubbed and the movie is distant and fuzzy. The worse part of this DVD is that it has a uncloseable subtitle section that takes up about 20% of the screen that actually blocks out the movie because the movie is not presented in Widescreeen. THe DVD also has no special features, only 2 trailers.

Green Snake
September 2, 2005 Brilliant and sad story with great performancesThis is probably one of the best movies with Joey Wong that I have seen except maybe of course the classis Chinese Ghost Story. Joey and Maggie Cheung are possitively radient and lucious in this movie. Although this movie has some overly colorful cinematagraphy and the special effects are pretty cheesy, the plot and the performance from the two leading ladies more than make up for the flaws. If you are a Joey Wong fan then this is a must see because I do not think it is possible to find Joey in a sexier or more noble role. Peony Pavilion (Deluxe Version)
August 8, 2005 Joey WOng's comeback after 7 yearsThis film is brillant and intoxicating because of the setting costumes and atmosphere. Although this movie was a bit slow paces, it did feature the long awaited return of the beutiful Joey Wong Cho Yin to the big screen. SHe played the ghost in all the CHinese Ghost Story films and she was one of the biggest icons in Hong Kong during the 90's. Joey is a great actress and this film is worth watching just for her, since the supporting cast consists of the likes of Daniel Wu and such.
