Disappointing but... Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
I see a lot of wonderful reviews for this drama and I felt excited when I first received this mainly because Eric Mun was in it :)
However, I really could not stand the main characters other than Eric who hardly appeared until many episodes later into the show +_+

This may sound particularly shallow but it certainly ruined my enjoyment of the show in that the cast was made up of such ugly and unbearably annoying characters. The female and male role were played, in my opinion, by those whose faces detached from the show and I could not finish the drama.

The storyline would perhaps have been a up side of the show but because of my dislike for these two main castings, I did not like the drama much at all...

this drama is definitely one of my favorite dramas. unlike a lot of other dramas that concentrate purely on plot, this drama showed much more of the 2 main characters' personality and thoughts. i really liked how it showed how the 2 main characters matured and grew to understand eachother. the acting is so good. lee seojin and lee eunjoo were so amazing, and they were really good together. i ended up becoming so attached to their characters sehoon and jieun. jung hyeyoung was also really good- definitely a talented actress. eric moon was suprisingly good too, although not as good as lee seojin, lee eunjoo, or jung hyeyoung.
a lot of people think this drama was kind of draggy and slow, but i didnt think so at all. although it was pretty long, it was always interesting and not slow.
i also thought the ending was pretty good too. i often watch the last few episodes again just because i liked this show so much.

Love certainly tears these characters apart, again...in this! "Phoenix" has been the most emotional experience I have had, yet. Eun Joo Lee's emotions I found the most heart breaking as Ji Eun, and her constantly flowing tears and heavy burdened heart, by her frustrating indecisiveness for Sae Hoon and Jung Min's love, is heartache on overdrive. Eun Joo also died not long after the drama was made, and this drama/loss made it far more hurtful to watch. Never has EJL seared my heart and captured my soul so much! Now I have completed it I feel I 'miss' the whole essence of the drama emotionally. Is this K-Drama initiation or something? The plot seems like a Catholic 'purgatorial trial' by the endured sacrifices Ji Eun and Sae Hoon have to make. The story is strongly emotional and you sometimes wish the characters could have been more sociably considerate with one another. The plot is well written and although credited as how Ji Eun and Sae Hoon are separated in love, gradually learning to know one another by their adverse reversed social status and emotive hardships, I found all 4 characters (with Jung Min and Mi Ran) playing out a more complex whole. There are more lessons here than two hearts maturing within exiled adversities. The characters are oh so emotionally fragile, lost in the noise of their introspective emotions and make life generally difficult for one another. Humorous moments, though, are given by the Yeo-Jin and Bok Ja parts that intersperse the drama, and even when Ji Eun's father threw the ash tray at Sae Hoon's head, I couldn't help finding this a bit funny. I mean...it was like a toddler in a pram throwing its rattle at him!

The acting is fantastic! Suh Jun Lee (whose an absolutely great guy...likes Black Sabbath according to his T-Shirt in the "Freeze" extras...and no wonder after "Phoenix's" emotion!) performs really well as Sae Hoon. His hurt is difficult to watch by the yearning heart he has so much for Ji Eun. How on earth, though, could he keep his steely nature in check and produce that MP3 project without a hitch,considering his emotions for Ji Eun. If that was me in love with Eun Joo (I mean Ji Eun), and in charge of that MP3 project I would ended up having some complaining future customers. Would it have been an MP3 player? Hye Young Jung is brilliant as Mi Ran and her tumultuous scenes of self destructive paranoia regarding Sae Hoon's unavoidable love for Ji Eun and diminishing commitments to her is incredible acting, and terribly sad. I couldn't help feel compassion for her. Sae Hoon only commits as a fiancee to Mi Ran due to a car accident they both had and of his guilty reasoning of causing it. Mi Ran is crazy and wrong to hate Ji Eun (even painting her toe nails jealousy green and finger nails depressive blue), but so needing good mutual love, which Sae Hoon could not provide for her. If only she sought the sanity of absolution and ceased to think of Sae Hoon as only a need and held more compassion for him. He could have loved her. Mi Ran's cataclysmic soul touched me by all her shattered dreams. Emotionally, her 'car' crashes more so than Ji Eun's literal car crash when she first met Sae Hoon. Eric Mun's role was well performed and his relationship with Ji Eun absolutely heartbreaking. Pity his love cannot be equally returned by Ji Eun, because of her burden and complex emotions for Sae Hoon. I liked how he danced with Ji Eun in front of his car headlights. Eun Joo is just fantastic and her wealth and emotions are just incredible. She really moves you. Her lovely smiles, sweet voice, warm looks, tearful hopelessness, religious conviction and silent sighs all just break your heart watching her walk through all her mood filled grey. I just wanted to cherish her! Ji Eun is always caught up by her burdened sorrow at not being able to fully help Sae Hoon with his. Little wonder she eventually explodes into anger when past revelations and lies push her to the limit. All these four characters are quite lonely, needful and fragile. I loved them - for me, Eun Joo is easy to love, but Sae Hoon, Jung Min, Mi Ran. too - after all, no matter what disastrous decisions they took, they all went through so much and in many ways and were faultless - but love tears into shreds the raiment of their lives.

I'll miss it now its finished and I'll never forget Eun Joo Lee. She really got to me this time 'living' with her for part of 26 hours. "Phoenix", about a fire bird that is re-born after intensive trial and destruction, is exactly what this drama is about, but with emotions hurtling into that trial of fire. Maybe a sort of resurrection of love getting re-arranged. Its one hard and painful story and juxtaposed with the sad loss of Eun Joo Lee can amplify the emotion to extreme heights. You'll cry a river with this one.

Once again, Lee Eun Joo does an excellent job portraying her character. The pace is a little back and forth like the stereotypical kdrama, but still a little faster so that you're always excited to keep going. A must see for Eric Mun and Lee Eun Joo fans.

I watched this because Lee EunJoo, she has been one of my favorite actress. the whole series do not bored you and carry out perfectly from the director. It's sad she died such young age.

The story begins with almost instantaneous love, marriage and separation of the two leads. Then, that is where the drama really begins for me. You can almost touch /sense the tangible love and attraction Li Seo Jin has for Lee Eun Joo. The chemistry is wonderful although I thought her acting was a bit stiff at times. The pace is very fast at first but towards the end, it gets entangled in the typical third party jealousy mode. I thought that the show could be shortened slightly with a more decisive ending. But otherwise it was one of the better dramas which I watched lst year. Worth your time definetely.

Series is REALLY GOOD. The ingredient is complete. The ups and downs of the characters who are greatly in love is shown up to the end. I just hope the ending of the series would have been more nicer. Although in the end you might conclude that they will end up liking again each other. Maybe, because of the great restrain they did throughout the series in terms of their feelings towards each other, for me it would have been nicer if the last scene.. . two people embracing each other or maybe... marrying again. Otherwise, Phoenix is a series you should not miss.

The main characters I believe were suited for the roles they played. Both "Lees" portrayed emotional turmoil they were going through just by a glance, or a smile...body language were strong indications of emotional turmoil. I also thought they looked subtle and mysterious...

The K drama to me is better than others that I had watched so far....Anyways, I like the Lee Seo-jin, he can act and a nice deep voice. The OST was also well put together..it reflected how the characters were feeling...

Sae hun & Ji eun are a young couple who desperately fell in love during college year but they couldn't be together because Sae hun is a poor guy. They were separated by a misunderstanding. Years pass by and these two meet again. And the trick of fortune switches their situation and environments. Ji eun, used to be a daughter of a millionaire has now become an helper suffering from the grim realities of life. On the other hand, Sae hun, an orphan self-supporting student is now an accomplished wealthy businessman, William Jang. Now these two people are looking at the world with different eyes. The childlike girl has finally learned the harshness of the world and the guy with once twisted mind has learned to enjoy the latitude of mind. In the end, these two start to understand each other, but it took a lot of effort to arrive at the happiness

What is interesting is the growth/change in the two main characters which you don't see in other Korean series. Some characters stay stagnant, and thus predictable. But in Phoenix, how they were, and what they become will keep you guessing if they will eventually be together. The scene where he talked about her in terms of the umbrella was so gripping, desperate, and sad. And the actress who played his girlfriend was soo good. She played that psychotic character better than Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. Buy the soundtrack. It's off the hook!
