PING PONG SLAMS!
|
I MAY BE A LITTLE LATE ON THE BANDWAGON HERE, HOWEVER, THAT WAS BECAUSE SOME OF THE MAINSTREAM REVIEWS ON THIS MOVIE WERE LUKEWARM AND THAT SORT OF STRAYED ME AWAY FROM PURCHASING THIS MOVIE INITIALLY. I AGREE WITH WHAT ONE REVIEW STATED BY THE NAME OF "CALVIN." THIS MOVIE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE COMPARED TO SHAOLIN SOCCER. AND I THINK IT WAS THIS INITIAL COMPARISON I READ ON OTHER WEBSITES THAT STEERED ME AWAY. PING PONG IS AN INCREDIBLE MOVIE, WITH ALL THE SUBTLETIES OF THE TRUE SAMURAI SPIRIT INVOKED WITH COMPASSION, DEDICATION AND HONOR THROUGH FRIENDSHIP. LIKE BILLY ELLIOTT, THIS MOVIE TRANSCENDS THE "GIMMICK" OR SUBJECT MATTER OF THE GAME PING PONG ITSELF. SUCH THAT, I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT PING PONG THE SAME WAY I SURE AS HELL WASN'T INTERESTED IN "BALLET DANCING" IN "BILLY ELLIOTT." INSTEAD, THIS MOVIE FINDS ITSELF SURPASSING INTO THE RARITY OF MOVIE MAGIC, WHERE WE AS THE VIEWERS CAN BECOME COMPLETELY IMMERSED IN THE INTEGRITY OF THE CHARACTERS AND STORYLINE. MOVIES LIKE THIS BECOME A COMPOSITION OF NOT ONLY ACTORS AND SCRIPT WORKING IN COHESION, BUT THE WONDERFUL SYNCRONICITY OF SOUNDTRACK SCORES, DIRECTION, EDITING AND SPECIAL EFFECTS PRODUCING PROBABLY THE BEST "POP CULTURE" MOVIE I'VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME. |

The greatest ping-pong movie in existence
| From a tennis player's point of view, it is great to finally see a movie about ping-pong. In the U.S., ping-pong is not that big of a sport as tennis. Japan might be vice-versa. Before watching this movie, I questioned myself on how great a movie about ping-pong could be. Only a ping-pong or tennis player can truly understand how important a game or set could be. Most people can only see 2 people hitting a ball back and forth. This movie succeeded in showing how fun ping-pong can be at times. The camera angles and video graphics help in the enhancement of their games. Overall, this would probably be the greatest ping-pong game ever. |

Excellent!
| When I firt heard about "Ping-Pong", I thought two things; "What kind of person would watch a movie about ping pong.." & "..How the heck did this movie get so many great reviews?" So I went out and bought it. ...I cant stress how excellent this movie is. Humor, Drama, Action. It seems to lack in the Romance department, but thats not its purpose anyway, ne? Kobuzuka Yosuke is an amazing actor. I fell in love with his ability to portrait his character so effectively! Ping Pong is about identity struggles, high school competition, and of course..Ping Pong. An intro that starts off with a bang, the movie will grasp your attention span for the whole 2 hours and wont even let it go. Effectively combined with graphics, its worth every cent. Highly recommended minna-san. |

I don't get it
| I really don't get why everyone is comparing this to Shaolin Soccer?? Shaolin Soccer's more slapstick comedy- Ping Pong has a more spiritual sense to it, inviting more important themes. Shaolin Soccer's good, but in a different way- you can't compare it to Ping Pong, they're in different genre's. Shaolin will make you laugh and excite you with its special effects- Ping Pong is food for thought, you'll think about life and why we're motivated to do what we humans do. I understand more about people because of Ping Pong. I wonder more about what we live for because of Ping Pong. So don't even compare the two movies 'cause Ping Pong is a little more intelligent. Shaolin Soccer's just cool to watch. |

Yousuke Kubozuka!!!
| I first have to say that I've been a fan of this guy ever since his acting in the drama Ikebukuro West Gate Park. This movie actually isn't a very funny one but is still entertaining. It immerses the audience into the world of Ping Pong and some of the weird things Peco does. I have to admit that entertainment mostly comes from the character of Peco. |

You'll like Ping Pong
| This is a cool movie. It starts off pretty slow but mid-way it makes a good impact and becomes more engaging. I think it improves with multiple viewings. It was nice to see Sam Lee here and Yousuke was a really great actor, you should check him out in his other movies Go and Laundry as well. The soundtrack was awesome with the likes of J-pop artists Supercar and the Boom Boom Satellites. Overall a really good movie, not revolutionary, but still enjoyable and quite charming. |
