Chosen to represent Hong Kong to run for a place in the 2010 Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film shortlist, Prince of Tears is a showcase of director Yonfan's famed visual flair. It's been five years since Yon's last film Color Blossoms, and the new film has been greeted with enthusiasm by the film festivals in Venice, Toronto, and Pusan. Starring Taiwan actors Fan Chih Wei, Joseph Chang, Terri Kwan, and TVB beauty queen Oceane Zhu, the film brings audience back to the era of White Terror in 1950s Taiwan to tell an emotional tale of love, hatred, and betrayal between several people in a military dependents' village.

The original soundtrack of Prince of Tears features the theme song "Lonesome Accordion" sung by veteran singer George Lam. The CD comes with a bonus DVD containing clips from the film and the MV for the theme song.
