Project A (1983)and Project A Part II (1987), is the beginning of Jackie's dangerous stunts, Jackie against many with various props (doors, fruits, anything!), and his mixture of comedy and action. Now these classic films are released in a digitally remastered DVD pack!
Project A sees Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao starring as three heroes battling sea pirates in early 20th century Hong Kong. Project A Part II sees Jackie torn between fighting against a corrupt official with revolutionaries (Maggie Cheung, Carina Lau and Rosamund Kwan).

二十世紀初期，海盜橫行香港海面。盜匪羅三炮（狄威飾）與奸商周永齡（王偉飾）勾結，深悉貨運行而無往不利，官府為之束手。水師小隊目馬如龍（成龍飾）對官府之政策非常不滿，憤而離職，與師兄卓一飛（洪金寶飾）合謀對付海盜，卓武功高強，惜唯利是圖，與馬如龍合作只因想從中圖利。
羅三炮勢力龐大，馬、卓二人屢戢失利。馬龍心有不甘，重新加入水師警隊，與上司洪天賜（元彪飾）及卓一飛三人合力喬裝闖入匪巢，終於將海盜一網打盡。
This is Hong Kong at the turn of the century. The South China Sea is crawling with smugglers, cut-throats and pirates and none is more successful than the gang led by the gang led by the notorious pirate Lo. Government forces invariably lose to Lo. Finally the Government looks the other way whenever Lo is around. Young seaman Jackie Chan, so far better known for his bar room fights, resigns from the Marine Force. He plans to stage a personal vendetta against Lo. Jackie gets the help of Samo Hung, little knowing Samo has his own axe to grind. Jackie and Samo suffer an inglorious drubbing in the hands of Lo. Jackie, now completely incensed, decides to don the uniform once again. He finds young commander Yuen Biao sympathetic to his cause but adamant against his antics...

At the turn of the century, the people of China are rising against their Manchu rules. In nearby Hong Kong law and order has broken down. Working hand in glove with the underworld is high police Chun. Chun's misdeeds get the commissoner worried. To curtain Chun, he appoints Dragon Ma(Jackie) as police cheif of a part of Chun's territory. The situation is further compounded by a group of revolutionaries who happen to be a beautiful gifts and the arrival of a Manchu agent whose purpose is tho kidnap the revolutionies.
Drogan Ma pounces and arrests a godfather who is Chun's friend. It is also revealed Chun actually works for the Manchus too. He has to stop Ma...

Essential Jackie Chan films

The "Project A" films are two of the most exciting films to come out of the Golden Age of Hong Kong movie-making ... which means they are two of the most exciting films ever made. The first of the two, "Project A", features the pirate chief San Po, a truly great bad guy, as well as terrific star turns by Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung, a great story, a display of marvelous fighting skills, and absolutely bone-crushing stunts. The second of the two films, "Project A II", gives us Carina Lau, Maggie Cheung, and Rosamund Kwan as beautiful revolutionaries, a story of police corruption, much higher production values, and wondrously acrobatic stuntwork. Both films feature the unmistakeable Jackie Chan comedic style. These digitally remastered versions look and sound great; they definitely are the versions to own. Indeed, these are essentials for anyone building a collection of Hong Kong film classics. |

WOW !
| As it is said in the title of my review: Wow ! I mean really "WOW !!!" What more can I say, gorgeously remastered, DTS sound, great uncut versions, amazing action, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung & Yuen Biao - the most successfull trio to emerge from Hong Kong... If you have any doubts about it, forget them, go and buy it - a must-see for all martial arts fans !!! Get a big bag of popcorn, lights out and enjoy ! |

Excellent Remastering

IVL has once again done an excellent job with the transfer. Video is brilliant, not the greatest, but given the age of the film, IVL has done a great job. When I first saw a DTS track, I ordered this straight away, being a huge fan of DTS. The surround channels are used to good effect in the fight scenes, as well as the explosions. The bar brawl scene makes full use of the DTS. The sub use was however minimal, I would of loved a deeper thump with each punch, or kick. Altogether a good job on the DTS. Thumbs up to IVL for another great release. Only downside is box could of been nicer and thicker, kind of like the police story box. |
