YesAsia Editorial Description

Based on the same Chinese folk tale as Ching Siu Tung's classic film A Chinese Ghost Story, this fantastical drama brings a new twist to an age-old story. Qian Nu You Hun boasts an all-star cast, including Hong Kong singer Daniel Chan, Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu (Meteor Garden), TVB veterans Gallen Lo and Jessica Hsuan, and martial arts star Wu Jing. Writer Chan Sap Sam, the mind behind ATV's My Date with a Vampire series, updates the familiar tale of ghost-mortal love into an epic battle between good and evil.

Evil forces are waging war on humanity and Xiao Qian (Barbie Hsu) is a key figure in the battle, but all she wants is to experience true love. She ventures to the mortal world and falls in love with Cai Chen (Daniel Chan), unwittingly pulling him into a dangerous world of spirits and sorcery. Fortunately, they are joined by the perpetually bickering Liu Yun (Wu Jing) and Hong Ye (Jessica Hsuan), who are both skilled in swordplay. As the world heads toward a final battle, the fated couples must face a myriad of obstacles between heaven and earth to stay together and bring peace to an embattled land.

beautifully directed Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I've watched quite a number of "ancient" dramas, and this is by far the best in terms of scenery, action sequences, and especially costuming. While it's true that SOME of the special effects are awkward-looking, most of the time, just watching the screen is breath-taking.

First, the good parts... then, the reasons why I didn't give it full marks.

One of the things I loved most about this drama was the superb casting choices. Honestly, each actor or actress was a perfect fit for his/her role... and they all delivered great performances. From the various "jins" (spirits) (especially the Spider) to the "bad guys" and the characters I hated, everyone proved they had terrific acting prowess and chemistry together.

Another thing I appreciated about this drama is that it's more than just skin-deep. All the characters are entwined in an elaborate web (seriously, I was very impressed) of relationships, fate, and choices... and every action affects everyone else. It's a drama that also tries to deliver a deeper message about acceptance, the curse (and breaking) of fate, and sacrifice. The execution of that message might sometimes be a little obvious or clumsy, but I was still very moved by many of the stories, especially that of the Lan Mo (The Blue Dragon). In fact, this is the ONLY drama at which my mother has ever cried!

With all that being said, I actually didn't particularly like the two so-called "leads" in this, Daniel Chan and Barbie Hsu... which is rather strange because I'm generally fans of theirs. Their characters were whiney and immature... luckily, the other characters are given just as much screentime. Unluckily, the drama eventually close to an unhappy ending (well, for me... as I was rooting for someone else) after a rather draggy number of episodes.

Other than that little personal preference/bias for the second male lead, though, I thought this drama is really excellent. I highly recommend it.

Super_duper_Good!!!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I am a movie lovers, i have seen tons of chinese movies and thousand others, but i'll say that this is my favorite movies out of all timer. I don't know how it became my favorite moves, but i guess it's because it has everything that you're looking for in a movie. It makes you laugh, cries, feel as if you're really in the movies and feeling the pains that the actors and actress feel, it just touches my heart in a way that no other movies had before. This movie is a MUST SEEN!!!! It has a great story line. All the actors and actress was great. If there is an award to be giving out, i think that this movie should be one to get that award, for i think it deserves it. This movie should be one of the top hit! Well...it is already a top hit for me...i got the movies and it was never home because my friends comes from all over the place just to get it! I only get to watch it once! And now it's still not home yet! Thats how good the movie is! So I RECOMMAND YOU All out there TO GET A TASTE OF THIS MOVIE!!! FOR IT'S ONE THAT YOU'LL REMEMBER FOREVER!! IF NOT FOREVER>>>IT'LL BE A LONG TIME!!!!!
