YesAsia Editorial Description

Li Ching, a Hong Kong legendary actress, first rose to fame in 1965 when her The Mermaid earned her the Best Actress award at the 12th Asian Film Festival, crowning this 16-year-old girl as the youngest winner in history. As the top Shaw Brothers actress in the late 1960s, she made quite a few romantic dramas before switching to swordplay films such as Rape of The Sword , directed by the equally famous Yueh Feng.

A rare film focusing on female fighters, regarded by some fans as the forerunner of the Oscar-winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Rape of The Sword sees Li Ching as a general's daughter who learns martial arts from a maid (Li Li Hua) in her father's residence. Actually wife of a famous swordsman who gets killed for possessing the sharpest blade "Green Sword", she disguised as a maid and waits for a chance to revenge. But to her surprise, her long-awaited revenge plan turns out to be the General's daughter fighting against the villain...

Thirty year film veteran Yueh Feng cast almost equally experienced heroine Li Li-hua as a swordswoman out to reclaim her murdered husband's "Green Sword," the sharpest blade in the world. Li Ching, a lovely new star, plays the role of Li Li-hua's student, who must take up the fight when her teacher falters. Action fans and art film lovers alike will appreciate this "woman warrior" epic, which premiered more than thirty years before the Oscar-winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon resurrected the same themes.

Most enjoyable Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie is well remastered; the night scenes clear and visible. The soundtrack seemed low and I have to turn the volume up more than usual.

Both Li Lihua and Li Jing were beautiful. Li Lihua impressed me with her fighting movements, quick and agile for a woman her age and a non-martial artist too. She cut and thrust her sword convincingly. The rest of the supporting cast did their job ably. This is a well-executed film, moving at a comfortable pace all along.
