Regina Ip Memoir: Four Funerals and a Wedding (Limited Autographed Edition)

One of Hong Kong's most well-known and controversial public figures, former Secretary for Security Regina Ip Lau Suk Yee shares her personal and political life in her memoir Four Funerals and a Wedding. Formerly the Director of Immigration, Regina Ip became the first woman to take up the post of Secretary for Security in 1998, serving in the Tung Chee Hwa administration until 2003. Ip courted controversy in 2002 and 2003 for her advocacy of Hong Kong Basic Law Article 23, a proposed security law that many viewed as a violation of freedom of speech. Partly because of widespread discontent with Article 23, on July 1, 2003, around half a million civilians took to the streets in Hong Kong's largest protest since 1989. Ip officially resigned shortly after on July 16. After leaving office, Ip returned to her alma mater, Stanford, to pursue a Master's degree. She came back to Hong Kong in 2006, and ran for the Legislative Council in 2007, narrowly losing to Anson Chan.

Four Funerals and a Wedding is a collection of the columns Regina Ip wrote for Ming Pao from 2007 to 2008. Now the head of a political think tank, Ip has been active in public service for almost 30 years. Looking back on the past 57 years in this memoir, she revisits her personal and political triumphs and tragedies as a government official, a student, a mother, and a widow, speaking candidly about her political career and her family life.
