　　本片是延續「少林三十六房」並以「少林寺」及「三德和尚」為題材。小滑頭周仁傑（劉家輝）經常假份和尚賣藥，其兄對此甚為反感，加上工作上又遭惡霸欺壓，傑決上少林寺拜三德和尚為師，做個有用的和尚，欲為工人出頭取回公道。可惜三德收徒極嚴，只讓他留在寺中負責搭棚修葺工作。這安排令他可居高臨下，並可目睹三十六房練功情況，傑因此不知不覺中學會了少林功夫，且憑本事痛懲惡人，故有「少林搭棚大師」之名。
　　The original 36th Chamber of Shaolin (a.k.a Master Killer) proved so popular that a sequel was called for. But master martial arts filmmaker Lau Kar Leung (a.k.a Liu Chia-liang) escewed the plot and characters of the original to create a delightful all-new story which showcased his adoptive brotheras a hapless loser...that is, until he is convinced to help repair the run-down Shaolin Temple. Only then does he unknowingly learn a new kind of construction kung-fu to liberate his townspeople from the persecuting Manchus!

King of the scalfoding Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I initially bought the vcd version but loved it so much I now own the dvd as well. As mentioned before in my earlier review, Gordon puts in 200%. His comedic response and some gags (you have to understand cantonese to get it) were hilarious. Siao Hu played his buckteethed mate and Kara with a small supportive role too. If you watch the interview in the dvd version, he tells you how he was injured and also some interesting things about scaffolding (asian style and unique to Asia)- most Asians know that. As mentioned before, the finale was fantastic as usual with Gordon exhibiting his splits as well as balance/agility on the bamboo poles. I wanna give that man a big hug!!

Do not be mistaken, this is not the sequel to the 36th Chamber of Shaolin. However, it still rates high on my list as it features Gordon's agility, comedic response and perfect execution of his skills.

In this movie, Gordon plays a layabout/trickster totally devoid of any kungfu skills. Because his brother and his mates (also his friends) were bullied by the owner of the dye mill (Manchus) into taking ridiculous paycuts at the dye mill, he decided to try to sneak into the famous Shaolin Temple to learn some skills in order to even the score and get justice for his friends. Through his gift of the gap, he got in (albeit with funny results) and was met by San Te (now portrayed by someone else) who see through Gordon's disguise but nonetheless decided to 'punish' him for entering the Temple without permission. For punishment, Gordon has to build scaffolding throughout the Temple for their annual maintenance. With this ingenious idea as a backdrop, director Liu Chia Liang had Gordon learning kungfu skills indirectly from the students..........The final punchup, as usual, was spectacular. Complete your collection!!!

It's all about Gordon Liu! Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I was alarmed by the rather dreary opening scenes of this movie. What had I gotten myself into? Was I going to want to watch an entire movie of this dreariness? Then Gordon Liu enters the film and the viewer is swept away by both his unexpected comedic acting and his breathtaking martial arts skills.

Here's the plot in a nutshell: Nasty Manchu dye shop managers are taking advantage of their downtrodden Han employees. The employees enlist local scam artist Gordon Liu to scare the Manchu managers into restoring their wages by having Liu pretend to be a Shaolin monk. Initially, Liu succeeds, but when the Manchus confront Liu with a skilled martial artist, the employees' trick falls apart. The employees then send Liu off to Shaolin to learn some real martial arts skills. After Liu scams his way into the temple, he is uncovered by San Te, who puts him to work building bamboo scaffolding. As San Te expects, through his work on the scaffolding and through having the opportunity to observe the monks in their martial arts practices, Liu gradually learns the Shaolin arts, although he is unaware of his skill. He returns to his hometown believing that he has failed to learn what he had hoped to gain, but then is put to the test.

I won't give away the ending, but you can probably guess it. Gordon Liu shines throughout this movie. He is funny, he is athletic, and ultimately he is heroic in this highly entertaining kung fu epic.

Very highly recommended for a general audience.

No relation to 36th Chamber of Shaolin series.The great part of it is the arts of constructing a rattan hut can even be a kind of skillful martial arts. Highly recommended for kung fu fans

Will later put this to my collection ! I believe, that I've seen this one at least 5 times and will watch it again and again.

Better than the first part ! More fun and don't forget "Wong Lung Wai" ! It's so pity, that he never play a main part, or just I've never seen one with him. He so a great martial artist and so good-looking, that's why I don't understand it and won't understand...
