故事描述江湖中人黃光義氣為重，為了照顧同居友阿玲與及兄弟超、安，時常要供貸渡日，為口奔波惹來不少煩惱。
一次光為街坊出頭講數，被捕入拘留所，意外地結識了因醉酒鬧事而被捕的發富商周華。華得光幫忙，離開拘留所後即尋光答謝，送金錢、洋樓，更指導光經營生意法門，未幾光即小富翁。晉身上流社會後，光一方面與舊日“沙煲兄弟”距離越來越遠，一方面他率直的個性亦在上流社交圈中不斷鬧出笑話，光亦在開始看穿上流中人的虛偽面孔，十分鄙視。
光逐漸發現華原來視己為一條忠心的狗百般利用，一怒之下逐與之決裂，惹來華的報復。華利用與銀行關係截斷光的信貸，使光逼得變賣產業，打回原形。
回復一無所有的光得到兄弟的諒解，玲的照顧支持，明白到錢財輕而情義重的道理，決心重頭開始，而這時候他又巧合地救了另一個億萬富翁，對方又要他重重答謝！
