2008年4月30日 Unbelievable
I fully agreed that this set of 3 CDs completely deceived the fans of Zhou Xian.
I was excited that Zhou also sing the songs by Li Siang Lan, Yao Li and Kong chew Xia. It must be rare gems uncovered recently. I paid 150 RBM for the 3 volumes.
I bought the CDs as separately 3 volumes in Shanghai airport terminal 2. The packaging and information relating the Zhou's life, music, movies and list of all songs recorded were wonderfully researched with lots of photos illustrations. I was completely amazed when I spinned the disc. Completely new recent recording and no indication of the singer who did the recording. This is something unbelievable.
Though this disc shown here is packaged as complete box set but it is available in separate CDs with superb cover packaging. Just don't buy! You will waste your money. I have threw this immediately in the dust bin. -
2008年2月21日 Double legendary classics
Hey! Surprise!
A wonderful concept of 'East meeting West" concept. The carefully selected 11 legendary classics are restored at its best. 3 cheers for the engineering art to preserve these oldies with superb control on clarity, warmth, depth and over balancing of volume.
A new label - nice work!
This master piece definitely puts some of the EMI recent restoration works many miles behind. This is a wake up call to fellow EMI team that a new label has surpassed you in terms of concept and quality!
Buy this before it goes out of print. -
2008年1月31日 Poor Restoration
In 1992,the first batch of EMI classics from the Shanghai popular were published. The whole lot of more than 50 albums were initially restored by the Abbey road studio in London. That was the first time that old classics were treated like GEMs with lots of lyrical explanation of the musical industry revolution including a detail write up of the performing artiste. Quality of restoration was also good considering the technology prevailing at that time. Nice work!
It took almost another decade in 2003 before the next wave of restoration which aptly titled Pathe the 100 series. Fans were excited about the move for EMI's clear vision to give further treatment to these cultural gems.
Volume 1 and 2 of the series were quite well done but the latter rest which followed after a lapse of more than three years showed a declining standards in restoration. Those restored by Geery Robbins and Yang Wo Hwa were quite good but subsequent CDs were badly restored in terms of quality. A check on the restoration acknowledgement - you will be surprised that the name of the vinyl restoration engineer were not even mentioned. This is especially true for most of the recent albums. This set of box CD of 5 is the worst of the series. EMI Hong Kong should have a wake up call and should rectify the situation by turning to more qualified and reliable restoring engineers and not go for cheap and low quality packages. Thumbs down this time for the 5 CDs box set considering that restoration technology has improved over the decade.
The 5 CD box set by Abbey road studio is after all more superior despite it was delivered 15 years ago in 1992.

2007年6月24日 Inferior restoration!
I have 3 CDs on Yao Li in my collection. The first CD was produced by Ancient Sound Restore in 2003 by Lee Leng Kok. The second CD was serial number 3 on the Pathe 100: The series with restoration by Robin Cheery in 2005. Both the CDs sounded very good in their mastering and restoration techniques. This is the third CD of Yao Li and is serial number 31 on the Pathe 100 series and it came with lots of disappointment in terms of sound quality.
I wouldn't hold on to this disappointment and look through the entire CD booklet to find out who has carelessly handled the precious legendary Shanghai popular gems? I cannot even the credit for name of person who has done the restoration! The quality control is absolutely poor and surely cannot give any credit to the team auditing the sound quality before release. I suggest that EMI allocate restoration work to more experienced persons like Lee Leng Kok or Robin Cheery who did extraordinary effort with the old vinyl records. -
2007年6月21日 An Evergreen Album
Ms Yao Su Rong is a household name in the sixties. Her appearance in the music scene shook the chinese music industry like storm and lighting. Many Shanghai popular singers were so impressed by her distinctive singing style and change route to intrepret some of her songs. Even Jin Ting, Tsui Ping and Bei Lei performed her classic of 'No returning home today'. In my impression, this is her second last album where she recorded new songs. This collection is put together by heavy weights composer of the seventies. This is a treasure which focus on bringing the best effort to her fans prior to retirement. Every track is an evergreen and they aged like old wine. No regrets....beautiful singing....classic materials....treasure of the past. -
2007年5月19日 Timeless Piece
Ms Wang brings great surprises to fans after absence from the music scene of almost two decades.
Still the angelic beauty of her powerful voice is the center piece of this recording.
Many superstars reinvented earlier signature songs with effort which cannot surpass the original recordings.
Ms Wang did a wonderful effort which surpassed the originals in most songs and level at par in some other songs. Two new songs recorded also scored high points in performance.
This is an evergreen Gem which can be played throughout the years and definitely a collector's choice of materials.
Ms Wang voice is excellent and should give us more precious recordings if she can effort the time!

2007年5月19日 Stick with originals
I have been a fan of Pan Yue Yun and having all her released albums in collection. The 7 albums released in 80s sounded very original and good in the recent CD mastering. 5 stars for the efforts to produce these albums and another 5 stars for the performanances in these classics. These CDs made my collection of Pan complete.
However, the 8th album which is an additional re-mixed version of Pan's signature songs makes it difficult for Pan's original vocal to shine brightly as the centre piece.
I prefer the original versions which is simple and focus on the seasoned voice of Pan and musical backing plays second role.

2007年5月19日 Another evergreen classicSuperstars of the 80s usually comes under great pressure and expectation when producing new recordings.
Only efforts by both Wang Zhi Lei and Fei Yu Ching top the list of successful sound re-invention which surpassed the originals in most aspect.
There are also re=mixed version of Pan Yue Yun and 'live' recordings of oldies by Tsai Chin...........
Fei has been in the recording since earlier 80s. Voice has mellowed down with a flavor of quietness which is neatly enhanced by the music accompaniment. The recent albums have been nicely crafted to be collector's choice of music. This time Fei challenged the 'campus evergreen classics' with a touch of neatness and mastery which was never heard before. Fei should be a little more generous with such re-invention of classics by giving us 12 songs instead of only 11 songs. One new song done in 'solo' which was previously recorded with Jay. I prefer the solo effort as it is very pleasing and comfortable to the ears. Another timeless piece added to his growing musical cateloque. -

2007年3月31日 No surprisesTsai Chin has not release any CDs for the past 3 years after the 'Under the Silver moonlight' where she successfully intrepreted a dozen numbers of chinese folk songs.
When I saw this CD, I rushed to purchase this and listen to it a number of times. There is no surprises as my expectation is for Tsai to deliver a timeless piece or master recording. Some how this 'live recording' is at its best but somehow I refer her studio recording. It is in the studio recording where the sound stage is well set as such that we can feel and sense her sensitive reading and interpretation of her songs.
This one does not surpass her previous studio recording! But I still treasure this as a 25 year fans of Tsai Chin and having all her CDs well kept from her first record from Hai Shan days.
Ms Tsai, please give us some more studio recording soon! -
2007年2月17日 Timeless Pieces of the 80s
I have awaited this reissue of the original album in CD format for almost 18 years. I first bought Pan's album upon listening to track 1, 3, 6 and 9 of this recording. This is the best of Pan'g album to date. Although it has not scored into the top 100 best album of the Taiwanese Music industry from 1980 to 1990 but it is precious gem to listener who wants to listen to an easy listening and evergreen album at all times. My cassette which I bought has worned off due to repetitive playing over these years. I am extremely delighted when 7 of Pan's early albums was reissued on CD format from Rock record recently. This my best pick of the 7 recordings. Her techniques in singing is extremely versatile, unique and distinctive. Her vocal range can hit between high and bassy low within one single sentence of the lyrics so effortlessly and very comfortable for listening in the night! It will be a real regret if you miss this precious recording -
2007年1月10日 Another Master Piece
Feeling records has decided to publish 3 albums of Ms Wang's recording in the 80s following her re-appearance with a brand new album and concert. It is a wonderful gesture for old fans who wanted good singing and material which can be listened all year round. Perhaps a master piece or an evergreen album. All these is only made possible by the careful, emotive and passionate reading of the songs materials by Ms Wang. The materials are good but I give an A+ for her performance! When will Feeling record release the last album titled 'Met you' 'Lonely in the Dream'?? -
2007年1月1日 Timeless Pieces
This is a timeless Piece in terms of the 1980s. At that time, Ms Wang's album still lacks a personalized production team in overall planning of materials and production. However the greatest strength is still her voice quality and singing techniques. This is the first time where 3 albums before the UFO are being produced in CD formats. Rush to get this before out of print. This album gives early indication and suggestion of 'a potential superstar in the making' Buy all the 3 albums without any regrets today! -
2006年12月31日 A Classic from the 80s
Ms Wang has an angelic and powerful vocal which interprets any form of music extremely well. The title track has been found in many compilations together with many artistes. Rush to get this one - a series of three albums released by Feeling Records before it gets out of print. There is another album which was missed out from the catalogue from Feeling records. It has the oldies classic - JIn Xiao Tuo zhen chong. It should be released to complete Ms Wang's music catalogue from Feeling Records before her Taipei concert in January 2007 ! -
2006年11月30日 The clasical years
This is another nicely crafted production with superb vocals and musical arrangement. There are 3 new songs on this album. Wang's come back album is undoubtedly a five star effort. I played this in my car and have been unconsiously playing this over the past 10 days. Get it now!
