Excellent album!!!
This album is clearly one of the great albums out there. Each song is introspective and lyrically touching. The album is mostly accoustic, which helps hone the viewer in on her incredibly rich voice. There really isn't a bad song out there, with Decay and Life is a Boat her best pieces. She has the talent to break thru to the West, but it will take creative marketing to accomplish such a feat.

Great Album! And perfect English! ^_^
I bought this album on the advice of a friend, having never heard any of Rie Fu's songs before! (That's how much I trust her taste in music ^_^) and I was pleasantly surprised when I finally got to listen to it! Rie Fu has a very pretty voice that has a nice, deep rich tone (quite unlike the other jpop artists i listen to, she sounds unique ^_^), I like the fact she writes all her own songs and plays piano on some of the tracks too! My favourites are 'Life is Like a Boat' and 'Decay' (both versions) She's perfectly bilingual (wowww ^^) and very talented, i definitely recommend this album. Go buy it!!! =D

I typed something incorrectly...
Not that it is necessarily relevant to a review of Rie Fu, but if you do take my advice (which you will NOT regret) and buy Ai Takaoka's "Sunny" CD...you will need the correct spelling of her name. It is Ai Takaoka, not Ai Takaoda as I mis-typed in my previous review. Both girls are a breath of fresh air and cannot be missed...that is why I wanted to be sure the correct spelling was here for Ai. BUY BOTH.

I wish I could give more than 10 stars...
WOW. First, I NEVER EVER buy Japanese CDs with so much English on them (I feel I can buy English CDs here in the states, so what's the point...I want Japanese CDs for the Japanese). And, truth be told, this CD is 95% English. Second, I am GLAD I made an exception! This singer is amazing. And so different in the Japanese industry. I compared a contemporary of Rie Fu (Ai Takaoda) to Vanessa Carlton, and I compare Rie Fu to Tori Amos. She reminds both musically and vocally of Tori. But that's a good thing, because I like that style of music: it delivers a poignant message in a delicate and soothing, moving way. It's not fluff and it's not overdone...it's perfect. Anyone who loves Rie Fu should buy Ai Takaoda's "Sunny" CD here at YESASIA. There is less English on Ai's CD (which is nice), but what there is is flawless and relevant. I think these two artists stand out in Japan's music market and I eagerly await a new full album by both...I have played both "Rie Fu" and "Sunny" to death! Still, words and reviews cannot express the talent and refreshing-ness of these ladies. I highly, highly reccomend both and my ONLY wish is that Rie Fu would include a BIT less English on her next CD. Her Japanese is stunning and think she should do more of it. Before I forget: I also love how Rie Fu provides her lyrics in both English and Japanese. I wish more artists would provide lyrics in both languages...regardless of which is being sung. Today's world has gone global and having both translations is wonderful and thoughtful. BUY RIE FU!

After listening to Rie-san's debut album many times, I felt compelled to review it. In my opinion, when compared to other artists in the UK or US, Rie-sans musical style is nothing too groundbreaking. However, in the Japanese market, her music is very refreshing because it is quite different to most of the current J-pop floating around (lots of which are very good!). If you have seen the Bleach anime, you will no doubt be familiar with the ending theme Life is Like a Boat (Rie-sans second single). Basically, the whole album runs in a similar tone to that song and also the songs on her first single (Rie who ! ?). These tracks are all included in the album. Despite of my comments on Rie-sans musical style, I do believe her music stands out. And that is because of her beautiful vocals, which are calm, soft, smooth and deep-rooted. Her voice, accompanied by catchy arrangements of acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano and strings deliver a relaxing and soothing musical experience. All songs are self-written and her Japanese/English hybrid song writing works very nicely and performed with very good English pronunciation. Finally, she is also responsible for all the piano-playing in her tunes a very talented musician indeed! Overall, this first album is a very solid listen and worthy of a purchase. I look forward to Rie-sans future work.
