Set on the eve of Pearl Harbor and Hong Kong's invasion by the Japanese, the tragic romance takes on added poignancy in light of the future fate of leading lady Li Ting, the "Rose" of Rose, Be My Love who committed suicide a mere three months after the movie's release.

Effective tearjerker Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This was a remake of an old Cantonese movie also directed by the Chun Geem. It seemed that he must have been running out of ideas in his Shaw Brothers days and resorted to rehashing some of his past movie credits. Nevertheless, with the production value of Shaws and an able cast, this movie still comes across quite effectively. The main surprise is Li Ting. Though credited 4th, anyone watching the movie will know that she's the real star, and Pat Ting Hung is only supporting. She delivered a restrained and touching performance that (at least here) outshined Pat Ting Hung, who was the more experienced actress.
She had the potential of being a very good actress, and in retrospect with this movie, it makes her early death all the more tragic.

Pass The Tissues Please Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie is very touching and everyone is perfectly cast. Li Ting delivers an extraordinary performance with able support from Ling Yun who looks very young and fresh here. I will rate this drama among my Top 5 favourite Celestial dvds. If you buy this dvd, be prepared for a drama that tugs at your heartstrings and get ready the tissues.

Cry Me A River Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I saw this movie with a friend who cried buckets of tears over it and I can understand why. Besides a most touching plot, the stars are perfectly cast. It was a pleasure to see Li Ting in such a prime role shortly before her suicide. Everything about this movie is perfect. The fact that it did not win any major awards makes it very underrated. Now thanks to Celestial, those who missed it the first time around in the cinemas, will have a chance to view and enjoy it. I must say that this is my favourite drama from Celestial so far. It really touched my heart!
