This is a truly beautiful picture Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is one of the more beautiful motion pictures I have seen in a long while. The imagery is beautiful and haunting at the same time. It is a deeply profound story of love, illusion, and the necessity of change in life (as well as the afterlife) - bridging Hong Kong of the thirties and the eighties. Anita Mui gives us a stunning performance as Fleur. This picture is not to be missed.

Cry for the Spirit Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Anita Mui is spectacular as the ghostly reincarnation of Fleur, a courtesan who died in a suicide pact with her lover 53 years ago. Deemed unacceptable by her lover's (Leslie Cheung) family, Fleur enticed him into the deadly pact but only she succumbed and was therefore doomed to roam for eternity in Hell. In a desperate attempt to find her lost lover, she returns to the Hong Kong of the present (1987) a few days before the anniversary of that fateful day when they poisoned themselves. Her pitiful plight fortifies the relationship of the two young lovers whom she encounters and who take up her cause to help her find her wayward lover, Master 12. A brilliantly told and acted tale. An old-fashioned ghost tale with no distracting special effects, just good old acting, directing and photographic talent make ROUGE a film for the ages, deserving of all the official accolades and awards it received upon its release. This DVD presentation is fine though the menu is somewhat shaky and unresponsive at times. A 10 for the film, an 8 for this presentation.
