大富豪で元宇宙飛行士のジェフ・トレーシー（ビル・パクストン）と４人の息子たちは、スーパーメカ＜サンダーバード＞号で、世界中の災害救助活動を行う極秘機関ＩＲ＜国際救助隊＞の隊員。人々の命を救うため、危険で困難な現場に駆けつけるそんなヒーローの兄たちを、まだ学生で末っ子のアラン（ブラディ・コルベット）は誇りに思い、自分もいつか国際救助隊の一員になることを夢見ていた。そんな折、ジェフを憎む宿敵フッド（ベン・キングズレー）が、次男ジョン（レックス・シャープネル）の乗る宇宙ステーション、サンダーバード５号を攻撃。ただちにジェフとアランの兄たちはサンダーバード３号でジョンの救出に向かうが、守りが手薄になった国際救助隊本部はフッドに乗っ取られてしまう・・・。
